sleeping 4 hrs/night, used to sleep too much
I used to sleep a lot, and could sleep whenever I wanted, until an emotionally stressful event, and now I've only slept 4 hours a night for the past month. (I used to get sweet naps in the day, and my mind felt totally refreshed. I loved being able to nod off anywhere. Eating carbs used to knock me out.) After the stressful event, I felt my emotions in my gut for about 2 days, and my mind was racing. Then my body just decided to stop sleeping normally. I wonder if anyone can help me understand what is the root cause of this from a neurological standpoint so I can avoid using sleeping pills as a bandaid. What hormones/neurotransmitters or receptors are overactive, underactive etc? Is there a mineral/vitamin deficiency etc? Please help. (Magnesium calms me down. I used to take a lot of B complex vitamins to level me out, now B vitamins just keep me awake. Carbs to nothing. Melatonin seems to help.)
