Fellow Canadians and The Disability Tax Credit??

Good Morning, so I was advised by Revenue Canada to apply for the disability tax credit. I owe them money from the back pay my insurance company received (LTD provider) once I was approved for CPP-D. I really do not understand how this tax credit works and was wondering if anyone has applied and was approved and if they can explain how the credit actually works. My Dr dated my medical issues back to 2007 but was told they can go back 10yrs????
Thanks for all responses!

I guess that no one from Canada has read this or simply no one really(out of the 150 views)cares. Well I am going to post that I have received a letter from revenue canada stating I was eligible for this credit and once they review my last 5 tax years and minus the amount owing I just might have a credit coming to me from the government, this is a good thing as I owed over a $1000, and now I owe $0.00.
Just a FYI.

$1000 sure helps......Good for you Bunz !

I think most members here on NT are from the USA. I doubt members from other countries normally read the SS forum.....even though I agree, this was the natural place to ask your question. Sorry no one here could answer your question. Glad you followed through and got the answer for yourself.....an unforseen refund is always a pleasant surprise !

Hello finz, how are you, I hope you are doing well! Thanks for your time in responding. Yes unforseen money is always nice. I was not aware of this tax credit and when revenue canada told me to apply, I responded immediately. I thought there were more canadians out there and just wanted to advise those on disability to apply. When the goverment wants to send you money or credit money owed, well I did'nt waste any time applying, and now I can take a deep breath of relief in not having to pay $1000 back in taxes. Thanks again finz and take care!!!

Hi Bunz,

I'm doing okay, thanks for asking.

Your issue is similar to a general complaint of mine.......it can be so hard to get the info we need. I know it's the information age and the internet is AWESOME, but I wish there was ONE place to find all the info we need. If you are disabled in Canada, USA, Massachusetts, wherever.....look here to find info on government disability checks, tax breaks, health insurance info, savings on meds, housing, etc.

A girl can dream......
