Blood Results

Was at hospital last week for IVIG treatment and as usual got blood taken, I got a letter today from my neuro to go to my GP and get repeat bloods done before I have my my next treatment in two weeks time. The letter went, during my visit this week showed a falling white blood cell count and an increase in marker of inflamation in my blood, has anyone any thoughts on this as I am quite worried, I would be so grateful for any opinion as I live on my own and have no one to discuss this with..........Marie

You'll have to see what the doctor says. It depends on how low the white cells really are. When people get a virus infection, the white cells go down, but not really seriously low. There may be restrictions on getting IVIG if you have an infection ongoing.

The C-reactive protein, is a marker for inflammation. People with autoimmune issues can have high levels of this. But even dental work can raise it temporarily. Vit C helps lower it, and studies have shown that on PubMed.

Thanks mrsD you are an absolute star, I feel a bit better reading your reply, will hopefully get an appointment with my GP tomorrow and see what he says, I panicked a bit when I first read the letter about white blood cell count and visions of my dear mum came to mind who had leukemia.

You are correct there are restrictions on getting IVIG if you have an infection I had one not long ago and they wouldn't start the infusion till the blood results came back from the lab, thank you once again I appreciate you taking time to answer this.....Marie

P.S How is Weezie getting on?

mrsD 10-01-2012 01:20 PM

Weezie is doing well and she helps and plays with Maya, and even lets her sleep with her now ;)... we limit Weez's time outdoors morning to about 4pm only when we are around. There have been coyotes sighted near us...and they may be prowling around at night. My goal is to get her indoors as much as possible now. It is helpful that Weez does not like cold...and it is pretty cold now in the mornings and at night.

I went to a friend's home today to harvest her unwanted enormous catnip! Boy is it potent! I have half drying now and the rest in a paper bag. Weezie is in heaven on our back porch where it is on the table, in fact. She loves catnip. Little Maya doesn't seem to be mature enough for it, and scrinches up her eyes and face doing a PHEWWWWWW thing. She also punches it with her paw! I suppose she has to be older, or maybe she is one of the rare ones who don't like catnip? LOL

Thats great, so glad Weezie is doing well and settling down with Maya, I am afraid coming from Scotland I hadn't a clue about catnip I have never heard of it, the internet is a great source of information, what I can gather is young cats don't seem to like it maybe she will change as she gets older, no wonder you are trying to keep them in before dark if there's coyote's lurking about I wouldn't be out after dark either, hope Weezie enjoys her catnip....Marie
