Water Retention After Steroids

It's been a couple of weeks since I did my 3 day IVSM. As always, I retain fluid for about a week afterwards and it goes away. Well, ever since I did the steroids, I've been retaining fluid on and off. I don't eat a lot of salt. In fact, I don't even have a salt shaker. I'm not a salt person. I also make sure I drink lots of fluids, mostly water but a glass of juice and a cup of coffee every morning and an EmergenC.

Has anyone experienced this for a few weeks after IVSM?

It's been awhile since I've had IVSM, but I remember being puffy and going potty constantly for awhile, after steroids. Keep drinking the fluids but ask your doc if you may need a diuretic(sp).

Feel better soon..

Ditto what Sal said...increase your fluid intake to help the cells wash that stuff out...maybe the doc might need to write a script for a diuretic...hope you feel back to your old self soon:hug:

I do need a diuretic even though I have a low salt diet. If you have to go TOO low on salt to keep swelling away, that's not good. So I guess the diuretic may be needed. I don't understand this area very well. I am usually not swollen if I stick to a moderate salt diet and take a mild diuretic.

My swelling took forever to go away after my IVSM, but I had 3 weeks of it and one week taper of oral prednisone. I stayed swollen for a few months. I hate steroids and will never be doing them again. If you flare again, you may want to try Acthar gel. They say it works as good as IVSM, but without the side effects solumedrol gives you.
