Headaches and Neck Pain

Hi everyone! I am new to this forum and hope some one can help me.

I have been getting headaches on and off for the last week. I have been starting to get pain in my neck and my head aches have gone away. I got into a car accident 6 years ago and got minor whip flash from the accident. Tonight when I was washing the dishes my neck pain moved over to my right side only and I have a weird feeling in the right side of my head. When I seem to lay down for bed the pain goes away. I have an appointment to see the doctor on Friday to take x rays of my neck. Any ideas on what could be causing this?!? Any information would be great! Thanks in advance!!

Nary a clue. We're not doctors, and there are just too many variables. It may take your doctor, or another specialist s/he sends you to, to figure it out as well; these things (proper diagnosis, which means an educated guess) can take some time. Further imaging (MRI?) and tests may be warranted. You may also be sent for a round of physical therapy.

To help your doctor help you, start a pain journal (Google: pain journal or pain diary for examples/templates to download, and articles on how to keep one). In this, you'll record anything & everything associated with this pain; everything is a clue to find the correct reason.

Until you see your doctor, listen to what your body is telling you, don't overdo things and exacerbate the problem, and try to relax. Take it easy and try not to dwell or worry; stress is never helpful, and counterproductive to healing.

Keep in touch and let us know what happens at the doctor's appt.

Go to your Doctor

You might need X-rays . It's better to go for medical advice. I have Tmd & neck problems. Been going to a lot of doctors to see who can help me. Good Luck

It would really be better if he had ordered an MRI instead of X-rays. X-rays won't show the soft tissue, like the discs (which could be bulging or herniated) like the MRI will. X-rays only show bone.

I don't know why doctors order X-rays for stuff like this when they're going to end up having to order an MRI later anyway. Seems useless to me, but I'm no doctor.

Let us know what happens, will you? Best of luck. Hugs, Lee
