Fibromyalgia

Something new for someone old. I have had fibromyalgia for 15 years all through my whole body 24-7. I have sought all kinds of treatment and succum to controlled drugs, Morphene and hydromorphone. My Doc put me on Namenda Memantine 4 mg 1 a day. He explained that this drug will work with my other pain medication and help it work better. But all the literature I have read so far talks about Altimeters disease??:hug:

acupuncture

Hello.
I don't know if you have tried this already, but acupuncture and acupressure often give much relief to sufferers of fibromyalgia. It is no cure, but it relaxes the nerves.
I used to be a massage therapist with training in shiatsu (acupressure). When I had a client with fibromyalgia who could not tolerate getting a massage, I would first do some acupressure (often very light touch acupressure) along the nerve pathways where the pain was. In most cases, after the acupressure, the client could then tolerate a light massage. It was pretty amazing to see the difference. I highly recommend trying it.
Personally, when I was getting treatments myself, I preferred receiving acupuncture over acupressure. It reaches the nerve pathways more effectively and did a better job of relaxing them; or you could also say releasing them, since that's what it felt like. Like something was blocked and got released. I always felt like I was walking on air after acupuncture.
Hope this helps.
Seren

Hi Hon.

My husband had acupuncture years ago. I will never forget him getting off the table a new person. He said "omg, this is fantastic". He went for a few months. I remember it very well because one of the appointments he had to cancel was on 9/11. One doesn't forget that day. He did acupuncture until it no longer helped him. But for a few months he had great improvement. He has neuropathy in his feet and for whatever reason, the acupuncture helped him.

Take care

Melody

Welcome to NeuroTalk:

Namenda is used both for chronic nerve pain and in some people with Alzheimer's. In US it is "off label" for pain but doctors can still use it for that. But in Europe it has been used for many years for neuropathies.

Namenda 28 mg at night
Memantine 10 mg 1-3 times per day

Amazing!

I was given the FM dx in 1999 but just never believed it. I was trying for 10 yrs to get my thyroid supported which I believed was sluggish but kept getting "no you are normal"...I've written so much about this and get exhausted talking about it more. I truly believe FM is a result of a thyroid issue not addressed or treated. And if treated not by the "best" thyroid med.

Magnesium is vital too and I take higher doses of MSM thru the day for bodywide pain. I deal with OA as well, long history of OA.
