L5S1 Suregry in 11 days with Q's?

Has anyone here had the laminectomy at L5S1??

I have info at my profile so I wont repeat it here.

I'm wondering, how it was with your hospital stay? I was planning on taking a lap top with me but I'm wondering if I'll even be able to sit up to look at it? Should I just load up my phone? Ideally I'd like to blog about this experience while it happens so I'd love to take the lap top.

I've had 2 c-sections in the last 5 years. My second was a breeze pain wise afterwards. I got up and walked around (slowly still!) but the pain seemed manageable. My first however I found so painful the first time I got out of bed that I fainted within three steps. Which was kind of funny, but you know...I remember that pain. I'm wondering if anyone has had the two and can compare for me??

I probably have a lot of other questions but I still have my pre op to go through so most of them will get answered there. I thought there might be some differing views on the sitting or laying part of recovery in hospital.

Thanks Boo

Hi boo

Hi, and welcome to Neruo Talk. Sorry you have to go through surgery, but it can turn out OK. There are many different experinces, and degrees of pain for this kind of surgery. I had C3-7. I experienced pain for about 4 weeks. The first week was rough. Try to have some prepared meals, and some help for the first couple of days at least. I do wish you all the best in your upcoming surgery. ginnie

I have had eight spinal surgeries. I am ususally discharged three days post op unless there is a nasty infection which has happened a few times. I wouldn't take my laptop. Each experience is different, even with the same patient. You aren't covered if your laptop is stolen. You will be heavily medicated the first day and hopefully the second paritcularly if there is a laminectomy. Anymore, I don't take anything to the hospital that I am not willing to have stolen. Best wishes.
