are episodes psychic simple partial seizure?

Hi there.

I have these episodes where I get a sense of impending doom, a sense of unfamiliarity, I'm unable to understand what people are saying. Some things I think and some things people say repeat in my head over and over again and I can't think. I have a hard time producing words. Things I read blur together and i cant read them.

are these symptoms of a psychic simple partial seizure or something else?

snowwhite,

Welcome to NeuroTalk.

Do you have a history of seizures? Or are you just looking for a first time diagnosis?

The symptoms you mentioned are common to a panic or anxiety attack and are also common to brain injuries such as a concussion or series of concussions.

Are there specific situations or times when you experience these symptoms?

How many times have you experienced these symptoms?

Hopefully, with a bit more information, we can help you or direct you in a worthwhile direction to find some answers. Have you had any doctors examine or try to diagnose this condition?

My best to you.

hi mark. thanks for your reply

i usually get the symptoms in the evening, but they can happen at any time.

i've experienced these symptoms countless times. once, sometimes twice, a week.

my psychiatrist is treating it as psychological. anxiety related. but i think they're something more. im going to see my neurologist about it, but i haven't gotten an appointment yet.

sometimes i lose control of my bladder or bowels, sometimes i smell things unpleasant,

the episodes last longer than a normal seizure though. hours. and get worse as time goes on. i have to go to sleep for it to stop. which is hard to do because my eyelids twitch and flutter when i close them.

The bladder and bowel control adds an important new dimension to your condition. Sounds like you need the neuro's help or as porkette will likely suggest, an Epileptologist.

Here is a good web site that describes a similar set of symptoms.

http://www.webmd.com/epilepsy/guide/...ymptoms?page=2

Tell the doctor your symptoms but do not offer a diagnosis. Doctors tend to be egotistical and some will react to your self-diagnosis.

Keep a journal listing all of the symptoms and conditions of each episode. Time of day, foods eaten, current activities, feelings before, during and after, and any information a witness has observed.

Does your psychiatrist have you on any meds? they can be suspect, too, at least maybe making the episodes worse or confusing.

Let us know how you are doing.

My best to you.

snowwhite,

:Wave-Hello: It is great to have you come and be with us. You will fine a great number of dear friends to listen when you are in need of ears. Please, just let us know how we can help you out. You will find out we are supportive and relaxing place.

Ever since I was 10 years old, when I developed epilepsy, I was going through pretty much what you are. One of the many things I remember is the fact that someone would ask me a question, I was able to come up with the answer but unable to move my mouth. I was real upsetting I could not move my mouth.

Please keep us up to date on your condition. Again welcome, looking forward to seeing you around. My thoughts and prayers are with you. :smileypray:

Hi snowwhite,

Welcome to the forum! Many times when I start to have a simple partial sz. (aura) sz. I will be in my living room and nothing looks familar and then I start to hear one word repeated over and over again in my head. My Dr. has told me this is the beginning of a simple partial sz. that will lead into either an complex partial or absense sz. for me. I was told to tighten up all the muscles in my body and make my hands into tight fists for a few seconds and this would stop the sz. It's worked great for me over the yrs. along with taking vitamin B12 1000 mcg. once a day. Give this a try and see if it works. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

I started getting these episodes when i came off lyrica. i was on lyrica for migraines but once the migraines stopped they didnt want to keep me on the drug so they took me off. im thinking i came off too quickly and it cause seizures. im not sure.

all i know is they're very distressing, and make me very depressed during and after. and i cant find a doctor who understands.

snow,

Can you get a low dose refill of the Lyrica to try to taper off? I think it would be worth a try.

_snowwhite_ 10-20-2012 06:30 PM

I did taper but I think it was too quick. I'm not sure. I'm just hoping they can solve the issue with medication. Like putting me back on lyrica.

Mark in Idaho 10-21-2012 01:49 AM

The taper should take 6 to 8 weeks. Reduce the dose by 25% for a week or two then reduce another 25%. Getting off medications like Lyrica can be difficult. Taking it very slow is best.
