My foot hurts

Hello everyone. I joined this forum in the hopes of getting some good help in relieving the burning pain in my feet. My doctor has diagnosed me with peripheral neuropathy but has not given me anything for it and has not referred me to a neurologist. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to ease the pain I am having. I have not had a good nights sleep in over a year.

Welcome to Neurotalk.

It not only sounds like you are in pain, but also like a diagnosis was given without a lot of testing and examination (what kind of tests have you had?).

Neurological problems in the lower extremities are often difficult to diagnose, as problems with the central nervous system--brain and spinal cord--problems with the nerve roots in the lumbar or sacral spine, or problems of the peripheral nerves farther down the legs can often result in exactly the same symptoms, and this can mean a lot of specific imaging and testing to try and pinpoint the problem area.

You should definitely come on over to our neuropathy forum--lots of sympathy and good information there:

Divazak,
I aree with glenntaj. There can be many causes for neuropathy, and the underlying cause for yours needs to be investigated.

There are medications that help decrease pain or almost eliminate it in many people. Gabapentin is one. I know a handful of people with neuropathies that have taken it and have been pleased with the results. It can cause drowsiness and other problems, but what drug can't? Point is, until you can get to a good neurologist or a physician that has dealt with problems like yours, just knowing that your feet burn doesn't do you any good.

Welcome to the forum - I'm new here as well.

I don't have much experience other than my own: I had severe pain in my feet, in the heel and arch. Diagnosed as plantar fasciitis, although the symptoms didn't match perfectly. The pain would be so intense that I couldn't walk, or put any weight on the foot, at times. It started with the right foot. Lasted for a couple years, then suddenly one day, with no treatment it stopped.

Then it popped up in the left foot. Same symptoms, other side of the body.

Turned out I have a nerve impingement in the lumbar region. Treating that has helped me a lot.

I hope you find some relief.
