Lyrica

Saw my GCP, left with 2 sample bottles of Lyrica. Lyrica scares me. Anyone try? Weight gain, fatigue, hang-over feeling, etc. things I fear most. E-mailed my neurologist for his opinion but haven't heard back yet. Gotta try it and weigh side effects against benefits. Hear for some, side-effects go away.

I've never taken Lyrica but I did find this thread about it. It might be helpful.

Kitty, it was helpful but like MS always - maybe, maybe not for you. Just gotta try don't I?

I tried this after having severe nerve pain in my legs

2 weeks I put on 3 kilos and its meant to slow your relapse recovery down, as soon as I stopped I notice a huge improvement in my recovery... but on the other hand you could be different

I wish I could take it as my neuropathy, or whatever is causing my legs to go into knots and burn and hurt, could use some help.

I took it four years ago when I had Shingles in my leg and hip. After I got home from the hospital and could not yet walk except with a walker. The Lyrica took away all pain, but unfortunately it also gave me a suffocating feeling. I had to quit. My reactions, although listed in the PDR, are sometimes not the main side effects, so you can't go on my response. However, just a comment that Lyrica is VERY powerful. One pill took away all pain but the side effect was impossible to stand.

wasn't my cup of tea either. Too strong for me. Made me feel drunk and I couldn't take anything else with it either so, no, it's still in the boxes.

i've been on lyrica for a while now after failing with neurontin.
it's made a big difference in my neuropathic pain.
i take the max dose; 300mg bid (twice a day). i tolerate it well.

i'm heavy anyway so hard to tell about the wt. but if i really try i can lose wt.
i tried going down on the dose but pain increased and could tell the difference when i went back up.

try it and see how you do.

I tried Lyrica for MS related neuropathy pain. Didn't work. Made me feel lethargic also.

Ditto for Cymbalta, Gabapentin, I think Prozac, others. So I guess I'm stuck with the pain.

I have just started Lyrica, switching from Endep which is not working for me anymore after a year.

I have to say, it's working pretty well so far. Takes all the pain away for a good several hours. Although it gives me a very strong stoned/intoxicated feeling and pretty bad tremors - once I go back to work that might be a problem but for now I don't mind it. Will wait and see about the weight gain but as I am only ~118lbs it's probably not a huge issue. Endep made me gain 20lbs initially - was not happy with that!

I feel I should add, if you've got normal/low blood pressure, be careful with this medication. It has dropped my average readings by 20mmHg, both systolic/diastolic. I woke up to a reading of 84/45 the other morning - nurses were not happy.
