The ALS Association, Massachusetts Chapter To Hold its 17th Annual "Living With ALS" Symposium

ALS Patients, their Families, Caregivers, Professionals and Supporters are Invited to Attend by Calling 1-800-258-3323.

The ALS Association Massachusetts Chapter is holding its 17th annual "Living With ALS" Symposium on Sunday, April 22, 2007 at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, Dedham, MA from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. ALS patients, family members, caregivers and friends are invited to attend free of charge. Continuing education credit will be provided to MA nurses and social workers. The cost for health professionals is $79.00 or a group rate for 3 or more people at 75.00 per person, for social work and nursing students it is $10.00. The program will begin with a panel of patients and caregivers giving their perspectives on living with ALS.

Four breakout sessions will follow:

1) Dr. David Chad, University of Massachusetts Medical Center, will discuss "Symptom Management."

(2) Attorneys Mark Bronstein, Bronstein Law, and Linda Landry, Disability Law Center, will discuss "Employment, Disability and Insurance Issues For People With ALS."

(3) Dr. Lawrence Kron, psychologist, will discuss "The Impact of ALS on Family Relationships Including Partners and Children."

(4) Becky Bradley, nutritionist from Lahey Clinic will discuss" Nutrition and The Use of The Feeding Tube."

A panel of researchers will update the audience on current and future research efforts:

Dr. Robert H. Brown, Jr., from The Cecil B. Day Lab, MGH, will update the audience on ALS research. Dr. Merit Cudkowicz, from the Neurology Clinical Trials Unit, MGH, will discuss new therapies for ALS, current and future clinical trials. Dr. Kevin Eggan, from Harvard Stem Cell Institute and Stowers Medical Institute, will discuss stem cells- "New Opportunities For Drug Discovery in ALS: An In Vitro Model For Neural Degeneration."

There will be several exhibitors including but limited to ALS and Neurology Clinics, a ramp company, a medical supply company, a patient lift company, an assistive technology company and a home access, design and modification company.

Professionals seeking continuing education credits will attend two extra workshops:

"ALS: An Overview" and "The Role of Professionals Working With ALS."
