I hit the RESTART button
Ok, so I made up my own "restart" button and thought I would share here.
I had been doing so well until recently then all symptoms seem to come back as if I was back at square one. Then I developed a bit of a rash on my neck/shoulder. I have done nothing new, no new foods, etc. So I decided to stop everything, all supplements. Except for my thyroid meds and BP meds I went cold turkey on ALL supplements for 1 week. Then 2 days ago I started my supplements again, and guess what? I feel great!!!! All is well in my world. Years ago I read you should only take supplements 5 days and rest off them 2 days. I kinda forgot about that as life went on and have been doing supplements everyday. After the last month I remembered reading that and thus my "restart" button. So...it has made me wonder if that research is correct, that your body needs a break from supplements and meds. I will be doing this now for awhile..5 days on 2 days off. Just thought I would share my results. :) |
Some people develop a "dependency" on high dose vitamins.
If you are one of those, you'd find a tolerance level...where everything just increases and expects those high doses. This is why I don't recommend high dose supplements. Often I think lower doses work just as well. What blood pressure drug do you use? I'll look up depletions for it. Those would be the nutrients to concentrate on. |
It's a small dose, 1 x a day of hydrochlorothyzide (sp?) Which is basically just a water pill.
I have read that you should go 5 days on 2 days off in a detailed report quite some time ago..but I don't remember where. Even for stuff like flaxseed, vinegar, etc. Says that your supplements work better for you when you take 2 days off. I will have to look for that again... |
It doesn't really matter much with supplements. Once you saturate your system, I think a skip here and there doesn't do much harm.
There is a similar tolerance to drugs too. Blood pressure drugs, and nitrates (for angina) have a tolerance where the body gets "used to" them and they stop working. HCTZ you are taking depletes these nutrients: sodium potassium magnesium phosphorus zinc CoQ-10 This according to the Drug Induced Nutrient Depletion Handbook, 2nd ed. |
Speaking of supplements I just found unopened bottles from Stephen Sinatra, MD Biosolutions of Omega Q Plus which is:
vit E, Vit B6, Flick Acid, B12, Fish oil concentrate, Lcarnitine and CQ10 I found 4 bottles that have expired 4/12 Of course the company said throw away and get new bottles. Any opinions??? I paid alot for them but lost them in my move and just found them. Oh, and a cholestrol Bottle that contains: phytosterol Esters, Rutin, Hesperidin, Garlic |

Open one up and see if the fishoil smells "off". Sealed containers (light proof? ) are sometimes packaged with nitrogen...but not always. If that is the case, oxidation would be less. I can't find on the site if that is how this is packaged. Is this the product? http://www.drsinatra.com/heart-healt...FelFMgodbWEAUA Lots to go rancid in there if it is. If it smells off--stale etc... you'll have to toss them. You could break one open and see if it is brownish, or smells "off"... Sometimes exp dates can be stretched, but with oils, typically they tend to go bad. |
Yes that is the site, however, they must have repackaged and redone almost all of their product, as the packaging is different now and so are the ingredients.
I think I had better toss them. Sad waste of money but as you said they could be rancid and I don't wanna try it. Truth is, I was done with that company, I went on a kick with them, spent tons of money and was on an auto ship thing. But I do not think the product was as great as I was talked into believing by my friend. I was only going to take them cuz I found them and felt guilty. Not worth it. :( thanks MrsD! |
