Slightly damaged!

Hi I'm a brand spanking new member! I need to get some information on concussions and how optic nerves might heal themselves.

I have suffered a mid grade concussion. It wasn't classified by the number systems that classify the severity of a said concussion. I guess I could ask my doctor but I didn't as he said it was mid grade! What does that mean!

I have suffered from severe double vision in my right eye. I need to wear and eyepatch 24 7. I need some answers. I need to keep what's left of my sanity intact.

My concussion happened on September 22. My quality of life right now sucks as I can barely function.

Sorry to hear about your condition.

The only thing I could say to you is it sounds like a specialist is needed.

My eye doc says I have small or thinner than normal optic nerves, yet I don't have glaucoma in my family nor any eye issues, yet my vision is 20/20, what stinks is I have to see him every 6 mos for 2 yrs and then he will throw the book at me.

So far my optic nerves haven't gotten smaller and he says it's looking good, however I have to see him once in April, then 1x every 6 mos for a year.

He also said some people were born with small optic nerves. I'm 41

Back to you, I'm a big Ice Hockey fan and concussions are par for the course, please be careful when it comes to head injuries, and anything to do with your sight.

Don't over worry, the anxiety it causes won't help any, just see a specialist whom deals with similar injuries, and if you feel your injury is "unique", there are doctors that deal with strange injuries and strange reactions from an injury.

Exhaust all your options, second opinions are not just a good thing if a doctor gives you bad news, you are your best advocate.

Get some tests done, travel to get the best care if need be.

I wish you the absolute best of luck!

I'm going to see a neuro opthamologist. He is at top of his class. He is working out of a hospital in Toronto Ontario Canada.

It's just very depressing.

I will exhaust every avenue there is. The only thing that is pissing me off is the time it takes to get a scheduled appt with them. My MRI took a month and I was an emerg MRI "apparently".

My doctor said to me that if I'm looking up info in regards to my concerns don't always believe what you read.

The doctor I went to today was very thorough. He spent 1 hr and 20 minutes with me. Do all sorts of testing. He even got a colleeg to come and look at me. With in 3 hours he had talked to the specialist that look after me the day my concussion happened. He even phoned me at home to let me know the results of the discussion between himself and the specialist. He's pretty on top of his game.
