I'm frustrated with the medical treatment I'm receiving. I've been treated by a pain management team for the last five months at a well respected west coast hospital. When treatment for my pain started no definitive diagnosis had been given for pain related to a femoral nerve problem. Pain management doctors seemed more interested in treating the symptoms rather than finding the causes. Lyrica (450 mg daily) has been the front line drug in treating the pain and numbness in my leg. Eventually an MR Neurogram showed extreme inflammation of the femoral nerve. Steroid injections were recommended at that point to reduce the inflammation. The first injection did nothing to correct the problem. Recently the symptoms masked by the Lyrica have returned leaving me virtually immobile. I feel as though a neurologist could use the info currently at hand to explore reasons for the swelling and correct the root cause. What is a priority to me doesn't seem to be a priority to my primary care or the pain drs.. I'm considering an ER as a means to receive a second opinion versus the referral process. Is this a viable option to jump start the process?

Hello Dadawaagin!

Welcome to NT!

You've come to a great place for support and information.
This is a community full of caring and understanding people, so make yourself right at home. Look thru the forums and post wherever you feel inclined.

I'm sorry you are faced with these frustrations, tho I completely understand. I've been there too! I wish I could give you a good answer to your question regarding the ER. I did alot of searching and went to several different specialists to get my diagnosis of Peripheral Neuropathy. I remember being VERY unhappy with my neurologist.

Holler if you have any questions or need help in finding your way around!

It's great to have you here!

Hello. :)

I don't know ANYTHING about your condition, but I can swiftly tel you the following...

STAY AWAY FROM LYRICA

Dangerous, and there's no coincidence in my opinion with suicides and this drug.

I say stay away.

Hello dadawaagin,

Did you have any direct injury or trauma? Maybe previous surgery like knee,or hip, pelvis? Do you have Diabetes? I had my assistant at work had a lipoma(non cancerous tumor) removed from her thigh ---she had major nerve damage ----was on crutches then eventually therapy helped her but it took 19 months. I seen damage from being in that area from many things, cathetar in hospital, nerve blocks, being bed bound to long from another surgery or injury. Sorry your dealing with this but I have seem many ppl in my lifetime fo thru it and tell me they can barley walk do to the pain.

Hello dadawaagin

Welcome to Neuro talk. You will find some compassion and maybe a few ideas here. If you are that much in pain, and your doctors are not finding out why, I would go to the ER for sure. Also if you post your location area, there may be others here on NT, who could direct you to a physician who would care enough to look into why this is happening to you. Try a physiatrist, this is a special kind of doctor for pain, but they also work at a cellular level. They do all pain specialist do, but go at it from a different angle. Keep in touch. I care. ginnie
