New here and clueless

Hi all,
Please excuse mistakes with protocol and terminology since I'm new here. I have been having odd problems over the past two years with walking. Nothing major and very hard to describe to doctors but worrying. I see a neuro regularly for chronic headaches. I finally got his attention on the walking stuff. He ordered brain MRI (normal), EMG (normal) and blood work. He says the blood work shows something called anti-sulfatide antibody which is "suspicious" for neuropathy problems. Sitting there in his office I couldn't think of questions I should be asking so I kinda just thanked him and left. Can anyone suggest what I should ask/know/investigate? I don't really understand what "suspicious" means in this context. Thanks for reading this,
GothamGirl

Hello GG,

Being in the dark can be difficult. Perhaps the neuro does not want to cause an undo stress about what it might be because after all, it might not be that at all. I would ask, "Given the symptoms, what is your prognosis?" and ask what his/her next step is?

Hello Gotham girl

Welcome to Neuro Talk. don't worry about protocal or anything else. Glad you found the site. I would definately write down all your questions regarding the anto sulfatide antibody test, and what that might mean for you, and just what it is he is looking for. You mentioned having a difficult time in walking. When I looked up this test, it is my understanding it is for neuro musclular problems. So don't be afraid just yet, but ask him directly, and if he thinks there is a problem. You won't know until you ask for sure. Look up this antibody test, but don't scare yourself, until you go find out exactly what this would mean in your case. We will be here for you for support. Many different conditions are brought to Neuro Talk. Keep asking questions. This is a good site, with alot of compassion no matter what the medical problem is. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. ginnie
