It's hard to let your pets go...

I wrote a previous thread about my kitty having kidney failure and the torment of knowing what the best and only decision would be. Within a day or so after I wrote that thread J.D. (kitty) lost his sight. The next day we had him put to rest. I have had J.D. for 16 yrs. I miss him terribly but I know kitty won't hurt now. This was the beginning of a series of events that truly
tested our strength and love for our animals. We have seven dogs and a week later only five. We rescued "Treasure". from the dog pound about 10 yrs. ago and I think I wrote on here about One mans trash is another mans treasure and hence came his name. He was such a great dog to have, full of spirit and silliness. We loved him dearly. One day he just stopped breathing
without any warning. The vet met us at the clinic tried life support but sadly he didn't live. We lost our little boy.I suddenly felt that I couldn't breathe.
Treasure would turn Ten yrs. this month of December. We buried him next to J.D.kitty. Before he was put in his grave, I had time to talk to him and hold him in my arms. What a blessing to have him in our life. My Great Dane , Alex, had arthritis in her one back leg . We gave her cosiquin for her joints. It came to the point where she stopped walking and just collapse. We would have to put a sheet under her and help her stand to go outside to potty. She weighed 145 and was dead weight to support her back end. Sometimes she would have an accident while laying in her bed.
Never did we ever complain or scold her.I knew that she would never do that if she could keep from doing it. Cancer soon developed in Alex's leg and I couldn't believe it was happening.again as we had just buried two.Her love was running. Alex loved to run but she could not do it anymore. I would watch her face and the look she had watching the other dogs run. We put Alex to rest so she wouldn't hurt anymore.Alex was my heart.I made her a special blanket to put with her. Tears come to my eyes
when I think of our dear animals, but we know it was best for them and they don't suffer now. Doodle bug7

Oh, I am so sorry you had to release 3 of your beloved furry friends from pain. I agree that it is anguishing.

We just had a run of 4 losses here too since Oct 2010.

You have my deepest sympathy.

So sorry for your losses, Doodle bug. Losing pets can be worse than losing human loved ones when we make that decision. It's either both of us hurt or just us. You are strong to ease your furry friend's life into the next, more comfortable one.

Sorry, they do grow on you. My cat is beginning to have seizures at 11 yrs old. I think the medicine is making her tired. Still active but I see her aging and it will be a sad day someday.

I am sorry to hear about your lose, they are part of the family. We have a 8 year old ST. Bernard, and about three months ago she started having terrible problems with her hips. We thought we would have to put her down, we even set someone up to come out and do it at our house. Thankfuly a friend told me about his dog having the same problem and a feed store worker told him about neutro. A dog food that helps the animals joints. We started giving to her and with in 2 weeks she was almost good as new. Truely amazing, remember NEUTRO, its in a silver bag, priced is high but worth every penny.

It is horribly difficult to lose a pet. My 15 year old cat passed away over 2 years ago. She was my first pet out on my own. We had been through so much together. I have 5 cats, a dog, a chinchilla and a turtle. I love them all, but none of them will ever be her. She was

This poem always helps me when I think or worry about losing any of my pets.

I always say I wouldn't give up one minute of the time I have with my animals to not feel the pain and heartache when they leave us.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Oh doodle bug

Yes loosing our pets is as if we lost a family member. The pets are our family members. I am sorry you had to loose so many. I often wish they lived as long as we do. In time your grief will turn to smiles when you think of these babies. I still think of Scruffy, past away 3 years ago. I still tear up. I have a new boy now, and he has helped me to cope. I will be thinking of you. If people could just be as nice as our animal friends. ginnie

Thanks, this is really wonderful!
At first I thought, pfff, because I do not believe that my beloved pets go to a different "dog" heaven, because I really wouldnt want to go to heaven if I will only meet my human loved ones there! I truly believe they have souls and, if there is something like a bridge or heaven or somthing, they will go to the same place I will go.

But the end made it beautiful. I think this must be the way it goes, because my connection with one of them is so strong and real, I cannot bare to think of it how it will be if we're not together anymore. He's my best friend, my buddy, and I love him soooooo much!

Doodlebug, I'm sorry for your loss, that is just way too much, so much loss in such a short time. I hope you get comfort and help coping by your other furry friends.
