six months today, some improvement

Hello,

So today is six months since my cycling accident and I've just in the last few weeks started noticing some positive improvements. I have had a few days with a clearer head where I feel more like myself and less foggy, I have had a few days with a little bit more energy, I have also noticed on those days I do not search for words as much. I am also "crying for no reason" less which is a really good thing!

The symptoms I am still having problems with are the disequilibrium (guess it's not just dizziness ) blurred vision, headaches, mental and physical fatigue, problems with higher order thinking (decision making, multi-tasking, etc), problems with initiating tasks, light and noise sensitivities, etc. Actually, I'm still having all symptoms just some are less.

I guess what I would like to know is how do I move forward, slowly without having setbacks? The good days are only because I'm resting and doing absolutely no thinking. As soon as I start thinking the symptoms come back and it's frustrating.

I feel like I'm getting a little bit better but would like to know what to do next to continue improving. Should I start with trying to increase my physical stamina or should I start with trying to improve my cognitive issues (do more thinking)? Or should I keep resting?

I am still waiting for a neuro ophthalmologist appointment but I figure it will be March or April until I can see one. I think that is what I need to get advice on the disequilibrium and blurred vision. I might be starting vestibular physio therapy next week but I think it will just be expensive with not much by way of results.

Can't believe that what I thought was just a minor accident would still be controlling my life 6 months later! I kept telling everyone I'd be back at work in a week or two :o

Thanks for all of the advice and support! I get a lot of comfort from reading all your posts.

I hope you are having a good day!

To keep moving forward, keep doing what you have been doing. Slowly increase your activity level. Every two weeks, add another small increase in activity. It takes at least two weeks for any improvement so signify a lasting improvement. A good day is just that, ONE good day.

Think of it this way. You heal best when you can link good days together for weeks. Overdoing it will cause a step back in your recovery.
