Sucralose (or any other artificial sweetener)

I've heard it mentioned before to avoid the artificial sweeteners. I would just like to second that advice, after an accidental consumption of Sucralose. I was craving something sweet, so I made a cup of Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa. About halfway through the cup, I went on a crazy sugar rush, followed by extreme brain fog and a weird personality change. Checked the package and sure enough, it has Sucralose in it.

Not the business. For some reason I'm in a really good mood but my thoughts are extremely disorganized and nothing I say is coming out right.

Stay away from the artificial crap!!!

Struggling with this one. Can anyone tell me or link me up, as to WHY artificial sweeteners are bad for brains? We are a household without sugar for different reasons than mine, and I haven't been able to avoid the artificials.

I avoid caffeine, MSG, alcohol... And we are in general a low fat, low sodium household due to husbands heart condition.

Any advice appreciated. Not a great researcher myself, still get lost at it.

I'm not really good at explaining stuff and I won't pretend like I'm smarter than I am...lol...but from what I understand, some artificial sweeteners are considered excitotoxins which can damage and kill nerve cells. They can cause a variety of symptoms from brain fog, anxiety, headaches, dizziness and more.

It's especially bad for people who are recovering from a brain injury. It will over-work/excite brain cells that are already struggling to function.

Basically, it's not good for your brain. With or without a brain injury.

artifical sweeteners

I can't explain why, but I can tell you that my neurologist told me that the best thing I can do for my brain is avoid artifical sweeteners. He believes they are esp. damaging to TBI patients and artifical sweetner use, TBIs, and future alzhiemers are correlated. I gave up diet coke, a life long 2x a day habit!
