Need help deperatly ...pls pls pls pls
 

I am a 42 year old female who was hit by drunk driver 20 yrs ago, I had nearly 17 implants put in at that time, upper and lower. 10 yrs later a implant fell out I went to a new oral surgeon in NYC who advised me they where all compromised so all the implants where removed. After removal there was a (HUGE) hole in upper left side right under my nose, causing water to come through my nose while brushing teeth etc. after Dr made several (7) in office surgical attempts to close hole with grafts and no grafts it never closed so I went to a specialist and he was finally able to get are closed. A year later I had new implants done, suddenly I began experiencing pain in that same area, Sinus area swelling on left side of face, eye would water and pain unbearable. they removed the implant near that area and 2 years later I am still experiencing the pain not everyday again its flare ups. Today I have no implant there yet religiously I get a flare up and I am given Avelox and most times it subsides, during my last flare about 3 weeks ago I completely lost my sense of smell,and NOW I am concerned. Also & Im not sure its connected in anyway, since having first set of implants removed and the 2nd set put in I find I get bouts of vision issues (silver dashes seen even blurred vision to the point I have to stop what Im doing until it clears up)
My question is has anyone EVER heard of any of these issues arising if so what do I do????????????? I cant live on avelox NOR the pain a flare up brings Im tired all the time I've spent well over 100K OOP and am becoming depressed I just learned I need to have extensive bone & tissue grafting done bc of loss.. Best part I still do NOT have a permante piece in

I don't know the answers to your question(s), but wanted you to know that my heart goes out to you. What horrible experiences! Please consider getting a second opinion and taking top notch care of yourself in general...good nutrition and vitamins, etc. And if depression sets in due to all this stress, please think about seeing a counselor to help get you through this difficult
Period of time. Again, don't hesitate to get more than one opinion and even consider seeing various specialists, like anENT. Hang in there!

I am so sorry you have endured such misery.

I can tell you that 20 years ago the whole aspect of dental implants was not as stable as what it can be today. The knowledge beginning with the health of the bone/and the health of the patient, the surgical aspect and the longevity of implants has all come a long way. However, if the jawbone is not healthy and/or the patient is in a medically compromised situation, or the surgical aspect is very severe and unusually invasive, the likelihood of neurological and inflammatory complications are increased.

I am concerned as to why all of your initial implants failed? If it was due to deterioration of the jawbone due to a disease process... periodontal disease, other infection, inflammation... some physical (auto immune?) medical condition... then replacing them would have been risky to say the least. Were you informed about the health of your other teeth and jawbone prior to the removal and replacement of the implants? Were the replacements done immediately after the removal of the initial ones? Do you have a chronic medical condition that affects your immune system? Are you a present or past smoker, alcoholic or drug addict? All of which directly affect the oral health and the immune system. Do you take OTC meds like antihistamines or others for allergies on a daily basis and on a long term basis? Also affect oral health and immune system.

Perhaps some of these issues I've mentioned are linked to some of the problems you are enduring. Could that be possible?

You may find a guy called Mark in the Traumatic Brain Injury section may have some answers. Just post the section about your vision problems there and he will respond.

I am wondering if the anesthetic caused some issues for you. You will be amazed from the TBI site how many things physically affect the brain.
