Osteo-arthritis in hands

I have Osteo-arthritis in both hands, but much worse/further on in the right. Most joints are swollen and very tender to the touch, some fingers are distorted and movement can be stiff/restricted when cold/tired.

I have been offered hot paraffin-wax treatment by the physioterrorists and if this helps I'll probably invest in a wax heater/wax for home use. I also use re-useable hot-packs at home to relieve the pain in my joints. The physio has also suggested an exercise program for my hands/fingers.

Does anyone here have similar symptoms/suggest any other treatments which may help?

Thanks

There is some medication on the market for "Osteochondritis" and for the life of me I can't remember what it's called. It might be OsteoBiflex or something like that. The Pharmacy will know. But believe me, it WILL relieve the pain in your hands & joints. It helps repair the tissue that has been damaged by osteoarthritis. I've used it myself, and my hands are NO LONGER painful.

It's been out for years, and millions of people use it now. When it first came out, I was pretty skeptical but tried it anyway and was totally AMAZED at how my hands felt after about 2-3 weeks. It's WELL WORTH using it!!

Any joint that hurts -- it will help. So give it a try. And it will help any potential problems too! Best of luck & God bless. Hugs, Lee

PS == I don't sell this stuff so don't think this is any commercial. LOL ;)

I just remembered what that stuff is -- It's Glucosamine/Chondroitin. That's what you need to take for your hands & joints.

Sorry I couldn't remember it in the ABOVE POST. Thanks. Lee

Many thanks, I'll give that a try.

In case of Osteo-arthritis Glucosamine and Chondroitin can help alot. Or else vitamin D can also be preferred OR MSM can also help.

What's MSM?

I have Heberden's nodes in some of my fingers. I've had osteoarthritis for many years. I find that magnesium lotion, will help them, when they first start to appear, to stop. I am also getting other lumps, not at the joints, but inbetween them along the side of my index fingers. The last one is 75% reduced, now.

I also get Salonpas original type, and cut strips to fit the fingers.
I put them in between the joints so I can bend them. They are very effective at minimizing pain.

These are so inexpensive and very effective.
Many places sell them. I get mine in a 120 pk from Costco for about $6.75! There are many types, so look at this one carefully to get the correct one.

Epsom-It lotion:

The body lotion is fragrance free. The foot version has perfume in it. So the body lotion is better I think. Applied to the inner arms, wrist and hands, at night really helps me with lowering my high blood pressure, promotes sleep, and keeps the inflammation down. Magnesium is very useful for pain and bone health.

Another thing just for pain, is Biofreeze. This is cooling and helps arthritis pain as well.

The Salonpas are therapeutic because of the methyl salicylate in them (like aspirin or topical). And you can commonly find in local stores.

The other two you can't find either affordably or at all locally.
So I gave you links to the most economically priced ones.

I never had any improvements with glucosamine products or
MSM. So I don't use them anymore.

MSM stands for Methylsufonylmethane. It is sulfur compound. To form connective tissue in our body sulfur is needed. MSM is also supports health ligaments.
One of the blog says MSM acts as analgesic by lessening nerve impulses that transmit pain.

Thanks, I'd never heard of it.

Osteoarthritis

Well, I agree with Leo for the intake of Glucosamine and Chondroitin. They help in reducing the pain and helps the body in producing cells.
