a battle fought and won Tuesday -- stay away if you do not like hearing about bugs

Hi,

Hubby left me a note indicating he hoped that I would take care of the bug problem that had mushroomed in the last two or three days and that we were trying to ignore.

They were little tiny flies that liked fruit but other rooms in the house as well. I researched what they might be and how to get control
http://lifehacker.com/5826486/how-to...of-drain-flies
I am not sure what kind of bug they are but I learned that they might be living in the drains.

I mostly followed some of the instructions in the above link.

I poured a pot of boiling water down each bathroom sink.
Then I set out three bowls of a mix of agave syrup, vinegar, and dish soap (I used agave because we did not have apple or orange juice or any thing sweet).

The are only eight live bugs in my bathroom still flying around and probably a few in other parts of the house.

But there are well over a hundred dead in the agave-vingar-soap mixture.

Now I rest.

Mari

Thanks for the recipe for success.

I will remember this. I think I might need it soon.

I know I could have used it not to long ago. But the things are gone
right now. thanks to a cleaning at christmas/new year. For a party.

Gosh, I have to remember the drains. I had a problem just before Thanksgiving. They drove me nuts. I knew they were a fruit fly from bad produce but no idea why. I finally got someone o take a box of canned goods down to the pantry for cabinet room and found an old onion in its juice wrapped in a plastic bag. Where the juice dripped out were so many little buggers. Egads what a sight!
I kept cleaning the Sink and dishwasher thinking it was from the disposal....
Hate those things!
Leave it to a man to pass the buck, dh did he same to me.

I later found on the web that it is not good to pour boiling water down the drains as pipes and the connecting materials are not designed for boiling water.

Some sites suggested salt, vinegar, and baking soda. http://www.crunchybetty.com/clean-yo...negar-surprise
Others said Drano.
And others said Enzymes like this. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

A store of Weevils and why it is that hubby and I cannot properly deal with bugs?

Hi,

Tonight I had to get hubby's help to dump almost everything in the cupboard due to the 20 weevils we found.
They are quite disgusting.

We tossed pasta, rice, split peas, dired lima beans, rice, . . . . .

The garbanzas looked o.k. to me so I put them in the freezer.
Hubby insisted that the rice in the "good" containers was still o.k.
That is it for tonight.

Myabe I should try to sleep before I have to get up to the 9:00 a.m. alarm to go see tdoc.

Dear Mari,

Oh no! :thud: I'm so sorry. :( One more thing!
I am icked out by a lot of bugs... especially this kind.
Remember it isn't your fault. These are the laws of nature ... wherevere there is food there will be food-seekers. ;)

Good job taking care of the immediate mess.

I hope you get some good sleep before your tdoc appointment.

Look forward to feeling calmer and stronger afterwards.

You and hubby will get better at this. :circlelove:
