Need help urgently!!!!!!
 

Hi everyone,

Sorry I have been very quiet, just been very busy! Hope everyone is doing great and a happy 2013 to you all!

As most of you know, my sister has been diagnosed with PPMS 5 years ago.
She now is extremely flirty with everybody ( by everybody I mean myself, mother, father, husband, brother, nephews, cousins and even strangers!) She will even tell you that she is in the mood for you know what and ask you what you are going to do about it.
I know that she is not in her right mind, its as if she doesn't know right from wrong.

Now my problem is: she is texting strange men ( we do not know who they are - have never met them) people who don't know how she is (the flirting) will take advantage of her or even worse. How do I deal with this? What can I do for her to stop this? I'm just scared that she gets hurt! It doesn't help talking about it to her because she denies it and pretends she doesn't know what you talking about. Please help!

SadSister,

I have seen this behavior in Alzheimer's but not in MS. Have you researched it? A call to her neurologist may help. There is a chance that it may be a side-effect of a medication causing lose of impulse control.

I am sure it is alarming to every one.

Talk to a doctor, but MS does effect judgement and decision making sometimes. Also, what is your sister's age? Stages effect some people too. Could be a combination of things - perfect storm thing you know?

If her physician isn't able to see her today I would consider taking her to the emergency room for a psych evaluation. This isn't what we might normally think of as "danger to self or others" but I do think it applies here because she is vulnerable, which puts her in danger, and also should she proposition someone underage she could possibly traumatize them and risk legal consequences.

Hello again, sadsister! I'm sorry to hear your sister is displaying such erratic behavior. I went back and read your older posts about her (here's the list of your posts: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/se...g_searchinfo=1), and you mention from the beginning that she was acting like a child.

Hopefully her doctor will not "blow off" these cognitive symptoms. The doctor needs to address this. She really needs to see her neurologist!

Does your sister live on her own? If you've said, I missed it, sorry.

Oh my Sadsister, what a terrible thing for your Sister to be going through and such a worry for you and her loving family.:(
I think that a lesion in the right place in the brain could very well cause this to happen.

There must be meds to help. Talk to her Neuro/Psych and impress upon him your concern and worry for the well being of your Sister. Something similer happened to another member here. Haven't seen her for awhile, but the last time she was here, she sounded back to normal.

I'll be praying for her quick recovery from this worrisome symptom.:hug::hug:

MS has been associated with aggressive sexual dysfunction in some cases.
Having this info might help in obtaining the appropriate treatment.

Good advice all around but can you put controls on the cell phone for now so she can only text family members? Some carriers have that and it sounds like she needs that since she is communicating with strangers who might cause her harm. Good luck sweetie! :hug:

Good idea, Wiz! If number restrictions aren't possible with the cell phone company, taking away the text option will be.

this is so worrisome. i agree with all the above advice.
a stat call to her neuro, even pcp is in order.
make them call you back.

i also was thinking that a lesion would be causing sx's, however, not all sx's are MS related. her dr needs to work her up for other things as well.
i don't mean to make light of this but maybe she will proposition the dr so he can see for himself her behaviors.

if she's really out of control a trip to the ER may be needed.
