When to kindly confront the neighbor about a maddening squeaking door-

Hey. Been a while- hope you're healing nicely. Hit 2.5 years post-TBI yesterday.

I should post this in Christian Singles in FaceBook as well.

After weeks, or a month, the all-too-frequent loud, sudden, squeak of the neighbor's door is triggering pain in the roof of the mouth & now mild head pain. Not the loudness of it, but the frequency, pure stupidity & annoyance.

I've never gone to the neighbor before, but it may be time. Not even prayer is giving me the peace mentally with this person. Pre-TBI it was a banging gate below my apartment that was infuriating. This is getting almost as bad.

Thanks for reading- God bless.

If its been that long and is causing you physical pain then I say you should politely let him know. If you explain why its a problem then I'm sure he'll understand. Or you could sneak over when he's not home and try to throw some oil on it yourself!

Gee, can you tell I don't have a clue how to fix a squeaky door!!!

Good luck and I hope you get that resolved. Your home should be a quiet, safe place where you can escape painful noises.

Dear Jeffrey,
It's difficult approaching neighbours, especially ones you have not spoken to before. I would suggest finding common ground first. ie isn't it a lovely day/horrid weather (whichever is appropriate). Engage in polite conversation.
Then slip in at the end, (so he remembers when he walks away), wether it's possible if they could sort the squeek.
Don't refer to the door as "your door", because this makes the problem theirs. Referring to "the door" will make your neighbour subconsciously realise that this is not a personal attack on them but rather that you have a problem with the door.

Complicated I know but humans are. Therefore you have not been round to their home yet! I hope this insight into the abnormal human brain is of some help!!

Hi!

Sounds like you need to make something happen:)

Do you bake? A small bribe, homemade or not, plus buy a bottle of WD40 for them. Offer to do it yourself or let them do it. Feel it out and I'm sure with a small amount of charm you'll get rid of the squeak. Tomorrow is probably best, a Saturday, maybe 1030 or 2:00ish between meals and not too early or late.

Good Luck!

P.S. You could probably sneak and try yourself but with our luck they will probably open the door on your head and then you'll get arrested!LOL!

Buy some WD/40 and carry it with you.

Knock knock.

Hey neighbor, how you doing? I live right across from you and I was wondering if there was something we could do about your squeaky door. I'm recovering from a concussion and the noise is making my head pain a little worse. If you want, I brought this can of oil with me and I could fix it for you.

Chances are, your neighbor can't stand the noise either but hasn't gotten around to fixing it themselves.

Good luck.

I should've bought the WD40 way back after you replied. Now I can barely afford it. But it has been going every day to this day (visit the family on weekends).

Thanks for the replies. I need to do this very soon.

Ironically, the neighbor is very wealthy, doing all sorts of home improvement. But won't fix the one thing that's wrong. Unbelievable.
