Vanderbilt neurologists

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone goes to Vanderbilt in Nashville Tn. My G.P. wants to send me there. He was the one who diagnosed me a year ago last Oct.

I have not seen a neuro yet due to financial difficulties. Looking back I can trace when I started having symptons. 2005. I had a very stressful job with

very long hours at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. It was the first time in my whole life that I COULD NOT do my job. I had to quit. I was a single mother from the time my kids were 2, 3, & 4, so I knew hard work.

When I could no longer work, I no longer had insurance....therefore it was extremely hard to go to the doctor regularly. Mostly it was by ambulance to the E.R. Always same complaint.....right eye shutting. Slurring, no motor skills. Legs fail. Trouble breathing, trouble swallowing. They diagnosed me with T.I.A.'s. It seemed to fit.

Anyway fast forward to now. I go in front of the disability judge next week for the second time. I pray this time I will get a favorable outcome.

If I do, and I get insurance, my question is this. I live about 4-5 hours from Nashville. I just wondered if it would be worth my trip? I am really anxious about neuro's. I have a tendenancy to SPEAK my mind at doctors offices.

They don't like it. I want a neuro who specializes in MG.....

Thanks for any input.....I've learned so much from here. I don't post often, but I read all the time.

I would suggest going to your nearest neuro office associated with the MDA. All of your neuro visits will be free, although you will have to pay for meds via insurance or out of pocket. As for the distance, that is rather far, but if you have a trusted primary care doctor who can follow up and work with the new neuro, it would be doable. A lot has to do with your own comfort level.

Good luck.

I agree with 4-eyes; however if you do end up going to Vanderbilt for a consult, I saw Dr Amanda Pelltier in the neuro dept. She works closely with MDA and in fact, her staff signed me up with MDA.

Good luck with the disability hearing!

dewcole,
Do you live in GA? I do, and set out to find a neuro what specializes in MG.
Mine specializes in MS. I tried to get into a clinical trial that was at Duke but was too late. However, the administrator for the trial gave me 2 names of Drs in Atlanta that are very good with MS. I havent been yet, but I intend to.
If you want the names let me know. I dont have them with me at the moment, but I can get them!

I would like to know who is the best for MG in Georgia for sure.

The names I was given by the clinical trial administrator are:
David Williams and Marat Reyzelman

I have not been to see either one of them, they are both in Atlanta.
If anyone goes to see either, let me know please!

Thanks!!

I would like to say Thank you to everybody that responded. I am not sure how far I am from Charlotte, but I am going to check. I live in Tellico Plains, Tn. Right at the foothills of the Smokies. My daughter lives in Atlanta, so

that could be an option. That is only 3 hours, and I could spend the night, and see my grandbabies too!:) I will have to check and see where the nearest MDA office is.

So thank you to all......I hope we all enjoy a better 2013...one foot in front of the other

So I will do some research this afternoon on those drs in Atlanta....then it is a waiting game.....

I hope all of you have a joyful day......

:circlelove: Thanks!!!
