How To Get Body Temperature Better?
 
I can not handle this being always cold! I need some advice on this Please! I greatly appreciate any feedback

I find that I need adequate carbohydrates and other energy sources to stay warm. A low fat diet can be counter productive to energy and brain support. Natural animal fats (not processed animal fats) are very useful to the brain. The recommended vegetable fats are olive oil and coconut oil.

This might be worth some experimentation. Have you had your Thyroid blood tests done?

Thank you for response. I have had my blood test done and everything came back ok....I start my day with carbs and really love them, so they slip in often. I only use olive oil and coconut oil....I have been freezing for all seasons since accident. It is the craziest thing because I always said before that big sweat glands run in dad's genes, I used to always be so hot and wish to be cold! I got my wish I guess:eek:

**The weirdest thing is my hands and feet stay cold when I do my walks indoor/outdoor. The only time I can get warm is if I take hot showers few times a day and the best is when I get head wet with hot water...it is only temporary relief then go back to freezing....I got it on the symptoms list for when I see psychiatrist/physiatrist that specialize in TBI/PCS whenever that happens:confused:

Hi MiaVita,

In the first 24 hours after I was injured I experienced difficulty with my body temperature. I seemed too hot one minute and too cold the next. Apparently it is possible for the hypothalamus to be damaged. This is involved in temperature regulation.

I agree with Mark that it would be worth getting your hormones checked out. Was the blood test that you had done comprehensive enough? If they just checked one hormone, then it wasn't. The are a bunch of hormones that affect each other and it needs a good doctor or a specialist to check it properly. Perhaps you have had this done already, but if you have only had one thing checked then that doesn't sound good enough.

I would also recommend trying some drugs. You should be seeing a neurologist who can advise you there. I have tried amitriptyline and pregabalin and I think that they have both helped me. I was also being over stimulated. The drugs have not cured the problem but I think that it would be terrible without them. I can remember what it was like and it sounds like the sort of terrible time that you are having.

I was also very cold and still do get cold easily. I found that daily hot baths and using some type of natural oil for self massage is necessary.I love to use Weleda Rose oil or any of their oils but they get expensive. I was going through too many lotions too fast. Now I use safflower oil, the organic type can be used as a beauty product. I noticed that you have back and neck trauma are probably very tight. Also recovering we just are not as active as we used to be. Being cold is exhausting and uses up a lot of energy.

Where I live is warm and when I travel to somewhere cold I am not used to it. I have to do yoga to warm myself up from the inside. Have you learned how to do yoga breathing?

I use the heating pad a lot. Another thing I noticed is that my tolerance for cold water in the ocean and pool has really changed. I cannot handle it as well and usually feel miserable. Then I tighten up which makes everything worse. Also if I am too hot I get dizzy and nauseous easily.

Hope you get some relief!

One condition that can result from damage to the pituitary gland is Secondary Hypothyroidism, which isn't always picked up by a simple Thyroid test; as the linked page below mentions, TSH tests sometimes come out normal. I've found that in some clinics, you have to specifically request to have T3 and T4 tests done. You can also get pituitary hormones measured, but I believe you have to see an Endocrinologist for these tests.

Water Therapy for Circulation
 
Thank you everyone for the responses. I greatly appreciate them. I am going to go to MD's office that has all blood work and check it out to make sure they have everything covered....If they do I am going to tell my physical therapist/vestibular therapist I am ready to start water therapy for better circulation!See how that goes and if it helps me....:wink:

I had posted this in my other post about spring H2o versus purified water...very interesting....What do you think?:grouphug:

Dear Mia,
The atkins diet claims to be able to correct thyroid issues. I find when I generally eat healthily, good fats, not too much starch, high protein, low sugar, low caffeine that within a few weeks my energy recovers and so does my temperature balance.
You may find a little exercise goes a long way.

Sitting here freezing as I read your post and the good suggestions. I am usually fine - but massive hot flashes when I overdo the cognitive effort, and I have a really hard time warming up if I have allowed myself to get cold. For you southerners....yesterday I stubbornly rewired the block heater plug for the car which came undone (i.e. pulled put of its socket!!) as I reversed out of the driveway....'I had just had it fixed and didn't want to embarass myself again at the garage...so out I went in -28 C (-18 F) and colder with the wind - for an hour!!!! I was so happy i was able to do it that I got a bit cold. :)

Took me hours and finally a very hot bath to warm up! But I reconnected the plug!! Small victories.

Off topic, I know, but related to cold! Would NOT have been able to do that four months ago! Progress.

I Have Test Results
 
I had received all blood test results that included thyroid,vitamins,CBC & Differential,Endocrinology...Everything was Good:confused:So might just be the pituatary gland....will be continued @ a later time after some trial & error :D :circlelove:
