Went to ear dr today with what I assumed was a nasty ear infection - but they said ears look good and it's more likely TMJ. I've always had dental issues but with everything else going on, this wasn't exactly music to my ears.

I know I need to get a night guard, but that will take some time. Anyone else who suffers with this have any suggestions? I will do some research but am just kind of worn out right now.

Thanks as always :grouphug:

ever since i hit my head i noticed my left side of my jaw clenches alot more. its been like a year and im not even trying to sound paranoid but im 100% certain my jaw has shifted alittle since my injury and i think its from grinding teeth in sleep and being so nervous during the day i dont even realize im moving my jaw

My (4th) neurologist noticed that my jaw was out of alignment-this was caused by the surfing accident that caused my concussion, so he sent me to a special dentist who developed an orthodontic device that I wear at night to re-align my jaw. It took a long time to get the device correct but now that the dentist has found the correct measurements etc, I have much less facial pain. My jaw was off by 6 mm. I will probably need to use the device for another year or so. I feel lucky that my neurologist figured this out. I wouldn't go to any run of the mill dentist. If I were you I would try to find a dentist that is expert in jaw alignment and tmj. I use to wake up with a bad headache every morning and I no longer do.

I like dentists who have studied with http://www.pankeydentist.org but there aren't very many of them around. They are very gentle and non-invasive and let your body align itself rather than wrenching it around to get it aligned. If there's one in your area, it's probably worth the extra cash you are likely to have to pay.

Hmmm I had a locked jaw and dropped and thats when I had finished my Bachelors so I had more time to get this diagnosis of TBI...lol..I first went to jaw specialist and he tried to manipulate the jaw and put it back in place....fail! Way to much inflammation TMJ specialist ordered he would not see me till I got in with neurologist....Now that I got all my ducks lined up I go back to TMJ specialist in Feb...I could tell you more after the next appointment....Did you have inflammation? If so are you taking steroids for inflammation?

Hope you get to feeling better soon:hug:

My daughter still has some TMJ. She wears a dental guard. We were sent to an osteopath by her neurologist. This seemed to help her clear her mind and it reduced the pn. She saw the osteopath about 6 times. She then tried acupuncture. This has done wonders for the pn. She's not going right now because it's such a distance to drive. But she can now eat and exercise without the TMJ pn interfering.
We are in the Bay area, CA and can recommend Drs here.

Best to you...
