The good, the bad and the MG
Well, I have some good news. I called the neuro-optomologist and told him about my fall few weeks ago, and breathing difficulties after showering. He is putting me on mestinon and not waiting for the SFEMG. I have to wait for the prescription in the mail since it is a 3 hr round trip to see him.
Now the bad news. I had another fall today on the icy sidewalk at work. I know the icy caused the fall. But I think if it was not for the muscle weakness, I could have recovered my balance before falling after all I was the only one that fell out of 300 people in my building. I ended up in the ER and am now home with a bad sprain and a leg brace and crutches. kathie |
I hope the mestinon helps. I was falling all the time before I got on it. Hope you feel better.

Kathie, Good for you for being assertive and getting the help you need!! I'm glad your neurologist is smart.
Even an injury can make MG worse, so please rest up and get more sleep than usual. Don't forget the RICE, now RICE-M, mnemonic for an injury. http://www.fpnotebook.com/sports/pharm/RcThrpy.htm No one should have to slip and fall on the ice. I found these several years ago and they are amazing!! It's especially useful for taking the garbage cans out. Just don't use them inside or you might fall. They're meant to be used on snow or ice. http://www.qvc.com/CatalogSearch?lan...rd=get+a+grips Did your neuro give you instructions of how he wants you to take the Mestinon? They often do the usual start with 60 mg. but that might be too much to start with. Don't be shy about calling his office again for more help! I hope you heal up and get better soon. Annie |
The neuro said to start with half a pill 3 times a day with food and then increase to 1 pill 3 times a day. He said to try it for a month and if I do not feel better to come in and see him again. The shoes I wore had good treads but I think I am going to purchase something with more traction.
thanks kathie |
