Drinking any fluid or eating = Severe increase of symptoms.....Why???

This one has me baffled. I've been struggling with the most severe, debilitating and relentless setback or flare up of symptoms for 2 months straight. I've been pretty much incapable of doing anything but the basics. I will somehow manage to pull through, every once in awhile (maybe once every other day) and have "decent" thought clarity, but once I take even a gulp of water or eat, it's ripped right from underneath me and I'm back to being a complete space cadet (hence the username).

This problem didnt start until June of last year, which would be one year after the injury. The effects have only gotten worse. I've looked around on the web for 7 months now and asked all my doctors and they never heard of it.

Someone on here suggested that I drink from a straw, because maybe it had something to do with the neck movement. I've tried that and unfortunately, it didn't work. Has anyone got a clue what this could be? I'm getting frustrated and discouraged because I spend so much time resting, trying to recover from this setback, being really good to my brain...and I will start to feel the slightest bit better and it's all gone with a drink of water. Makes no sense.

Hopefully someone knows what this is and can help???

I actually get head pain or headaches if I eat something really solid, like the steak I had for dinner, perhaps. Drinking though doesn't affect me. It may be my Occipital Neuralgia, but it still remains a mystery to me. My ears pop whenever I open my jaw or swallow, and it isn't just one pop of the ears, its like crackling. It happens when I eat too, the whole thing is just so weird.

Consider, that sounds like it might be tmj. I just heard someone else describe eating a steak causing headaches and hers is tmj. Just a thought.

SpaceCadet...that sure is odd. Could it be an anxiety thing? Are you seeing a psychiatrist? And it happens with every food and drink and immediately after? So not a type of allergic or inflammatory response.... hmmm temperature of the food doesn't make a difference? i.e. too cold. Sorry I don't have any answers but I hope you start feeling better soon.

Thanks for your response.

My ears have popped after swallowing for as long as I could remember. Maybe even since.I was a kid??? It's never caused me any problems, so I haven't brought it up to a doctor. Did that start after the concussion?

Yeah im trippin out right now cuz our bodies NEED water to function. Hello??? Lol...Why on earth would WATER , of all things, cause my brain fog to increase. In fact, water is one of the solutions to brain fog.

To make things more confusing....my mouth was so dry from not drinking much water today, so I just drank another couple sips of warm water instead of cold or room temperature water and it made me feel better. I'm lost lolll.

Cyclecrash,

Hell, I don't know WHAT it is. I would like to believe it's anxiety, but I think the effects are way too intense for that to be true. I was seeing a psychiatrist for awhile, he had me on Mirtazapine (antidepressant) which helped with anxiety/depression for awhile, then it started to poop out, even on the highest dose. I quit taking it cold turkey back in July and I felt so much better being off it.

I just....don't know lol.

So there's your answer! Warm water from now on! Or maybe its the water... lead in your pipes, chlorine in the water... maybe it needs to be boiled first.....hmmm. ;) Well stick to warm whatever it is!
