Paresthesia

So I typically hang out in the RSD forum, but I also deal with chronic low back pain. I am having something that is called Paresthesia in one spot of my back located by my left shoulder blade. This just started a few months ago and it took me a little while to figure out what it was. For a minute I thought it was just RSD.

I have had a discectomy at L5S1 and above that I have a couple more discs that bulge, but none of the discs (that I am aware of) that are bulging are that high up on my spine, so I don’t understand the connection, or why the Paresthesia started.

Anyone else have this problem?

Obviously there's nerve involvement somewhere in your spine, and the nerves carry signals all over. Why it would carry a signal to your shoulder blade that it's irritated there is beyond me. But obviously there IS some irritation there, and I'm sure it's driving you insane! I've had that too, and it is very very bothersome. But I have an answer for mine. I had the leads of an SCS in the area of mine, and the nerve roots are irritated there, so that's why I feel it. It's been about 12 years since they removed the SCS but I still have the irritation. I'm sure you must be going NUTS with yours.

What does the doctor say to do about it? Anything?

I wish you the very best. I wish I could give you some advice, but this is something I just don't know this much about. God bless & take care. Hugs, Lee ;)

I have paresthesia every day..in my private area. triggered by an infection.
But I'd much rather have the buzzing as opposed to the pain I had when this started 3 1/2 months ago!
I still get some pain, but it's bearable.

hope you get relief from your symptoms!

You poor girl, my heart goes out to you. I have constant painful tingling in my left hand and left leg of late, caused through my back problems. I can't imagine having my privates zinging all day long. Have they prescribed you valaciclover or valtrex? (Same drug)

Hi Vrae,

Your complaints of mid back paraesthesia can be caused by many different things (too numerous to mention here). You should seek a neurologist to weed it out (you can PM me too if you like).

Omg I'm rolling on the floor laughing, sorry, it's a drug that's starts with a V and is an anti inflammatory, now I'm wanting to say ventolin but maybe it's not that either because that's the drug for asthma I think. I will go and google it, maybe it's an Australian drug only. Still laughing, so sorry. You might remember me from other posts, I had bartholin cysts x 2 when I was in my 20's and had the marsupilisation. I'm glad the endep (amytriptyline) is working. Watch the dose, too much of it gave me the tremors. Maybe it's ventorol? Will go looking sorry, didn't mean to offend.

Got it, it's voltarin.

Hey Vrae,

You mentioned before somewhere along the lines that your B12 levels were low.. at least I think that was you. If that is true then the first thing I would do is get some liquid B12 or ask your doctor if he/she can give you a round of B6 & B12 injections. Since you have full body CRPS a spot of numbness anywhere along nerve paths isn't all that surprising but with a history of low B12 that would be of concern for both issues.

Could that numbness have come about after your fainting and falling episode? Perhaps you hit your shoulder and didn't realize it and caused bruising or something that might cause transient numbness? It is annoying to have numb patches but if there aren't other symptoms of anything in that spot then I would up the B12, call your doctor and start a regular routine of gentle touching, light massage and epsom salt soaks. If it starts spreading down a specific nerve dermatome or path that would seem like a more urgent cause for concern.. except that you have CRPS so likely it would be from that.

Journal it, start normal precautions as if it is transient and alert your doctor.. that is my humble advice ;)

Take care Vrae!!
