Macula problems & MS
Saw the optometrist today...he said I have early changes in the right macula.
Does MS have anything to do with this? |
Hi Debbie,
The risk for Macular Degeneration is age related --- 50 and over. To the best of my knowledge this is not related to MS. My MIL had Macular Degeneration and she didn't have MS. Sorry  |
I agree with Snoopy. It is more than likely age-related changes in your macula. :( I have never hear of macula changes happening in MS. What did the optometrist say about it? Did he say it was macular degeneration disease?
So sorry you may have to deal with yet another issue.:hug: Getting older is tough enough and add in MS and yuck, Yuck, YUCK! |
He asked me if any of my family members had MD..I told him no one lived long enough to get it:rolleyes: They all died mid 50s-mid 60s.
He advised getting OTC supplements to slow it down, but to check with neuro first because of all of the meds I'm on. Scared to death of losing my vision...FIL had no central vision due to torn retinas at the macula and it changed his life.:( |
Check with the pharmacist as well. Most of the time, they know more about the interactions between supplements and medications than the doctors do.

My mother had Macula, which came late in her life but no one else in the family has had it. Like me she is the only one so far and I am the only one who has MS. I guess we both wanted to be different.
I am sorry that you are having to deal with this. Mike |
my grandmother and 2 grandfathers has Mac Degen - they all got around fine, read, painted etc. They said you learn to adjust and then it becomes 2nd nature. The good news is there are things you can do to slow it down and also that you caught changes early.
