Gabapentin and Lyrica... One or both?

I am taking Lyrica 150 mg three times a day and I was just put on Gabapentin. I was wondering if anyone has taken these at the same time? Should these be mixed or taken by themselves? And has anyone had any luck with either one?

I was put on Lyrica because of nerve pain in my right hip or what we think might be nerve pain. Then six months ago I was diagnosed with CRPS type 2. My pain is usually at a 9-10. Sometimes it goes down to an 8. It started in my left ankle after surgery, and is now in my entire left leg from my toes to my lower left back/butt. If you want more history just let me know, I am an open book and am open to any suggestions anyone might have. Even if you don't think it will help let me know because you never know. I am in so much pain, I don't know what to do. Please help.

Angelina, glad you posted this question. I responded to the previous thread on drugs-help.
I did take neurotin for severals years 3200mg and yes it helped me. Then my neurologist change me over to lyrica. It was good too, and I stayed on it till june 2011 when I felt I could taper off and end most of my meds.

I take both. If I take too much of either one I have adverse side effects (constipation with Lyrica, memory fog with Gabapentin) but if I take 150mg/day of Lyrica and 900mg/day of Gabapentin I don't have as bad of side effects. It's not harmful to take them both at the same time.

I am now wondering why my PM doc did not try me on Lyrica instead of Cymbalta... Is there another name for Lyrica? I am too ill to look this up currently. I am burning up all over.
What are pluses of one versus the other? Lyrica vs Cymbalta? Thx

Well, I guess Cymbalta is primarily used for depression and Lyrica (pregabalin) is used for nerve pain (like fibromyalgia). In my opinion I think Lyrica is stronger. It makes me alot more drowsy but for most it wares off after the first couple weeks. Cymbalta gave me weird mood swings. My primary tried cymbalta first also, then lyrica. I did get better results from Lyrica.

I've never tried Lyrica, but I am on Gabapentin and Cymbalta with no issues at all. Cymbalta isn't just for depression. It is one of the uses but most of the commercials I've seen for it advertise towards chronic whole body pain. I've had great success with it with no problems so far
