Chronic pain

Hello,
Involved in accident Jan 11th 2006. Cervical,Thoracic, lumbar.injuries, chronic pain syndrome, myofascial pain syndrome................... Was seeeing dr fo r2 years, taking 30mg ocycodone,40mg oxycontin er. Left Dr, went rogue, started writing scripts for anyone. Have been to 4 drs since and no help. I don't enjoy taking the meds (stopped the oxycontin, hated it). Given nuycenta 2x. Dosent help. Have had epudurals, si joint injections and surgery. Only thing that makes pain bearable is the meds. Starting to get withdrawls, Dr.today said they wont kill me. Dont no what to do.

Withdrawals

That sucks. I feel for you. I beg to differ that they could kill you going off cold turkey. I would go to e.r and tell them you need relief temporarily while you find new pain specialist. I know what you mean about not wanting to be on the meds but they do help. At least they could give you meds to make you more comfortable while you are withdrawing. Good luck. Prayers are with you.

Get an old doctor

Yeah, you are right about the young people being trained that we are all drug seekers. Get a nice old doctor. That is what I have. These guys understand that pain can kill and the only thing effective for pain is narcotic pain medication. There is no alternative. These older doctors know this. Hope you are doing ok. I have been feeling bad for you. I know what it feels like. Good luck brother.

I am sorry but narcotics are not the only thing effective for pain.
My doctor is a year into his first year attending and he writes me pain medication. Age of MD does not dictate rather or not one receives opiate pain relievers. Genuine and documented pain that has failed all other modalities of relief get opiates.

Hi. As a fellow chronic pain sufferer just wanted to share with you that here in Uk they have me and others on a methadone programme(for pain), oxycodone for 'spiking' or as we call its breakthrough pain and anti inflammatories - Naxproxen in my case, and nerve blocker pregabalin... plus a load of other nasty stuff. I ususally end up knocking myself out with sleepers to escape the pain! Ive done the lot fentaynl patches, codeine etc....Does the methadone for pain thing exist there for you guys? I know your healthcare set up is different . God Bless you all x

My doc has me on methadone. More MDs are getting past the stigma and realizing methadone is a good pain killer, especially for nerve pain. I only take 30mg a day and I am fine. I take hydrocodone because oxy gives me to many side fx.

Side effects ? welcome your opinion

Hi Morgan Herritage. Ive developed peripheral polyneuropathy basically feet, legs, arms, even face. Have you had any different symptoms on methadone. Im on 60mg day for past 5 years plus oxynorm/contin . Doesnt touch this new pain i have. Specialists here trying to blame my opiates... its not that causing my latest problems. This pain is totally different in sites that werent even damaged. Whats your experience. Be interested to know. Thanks. God Bless x

Just constipation and raised body temp. The sweats are terrible. As soon as the side fx outweigh benifets I will stop or taper. But 30 a day is figuratively a low dose. Doctors will shun opiates if they don't seem to be properly affective, or if they constantly have to be raised.

Really?

Just read your post. "I am sorry but narcotics are not the only thing effective for pain." I didnt try Tylenol, Ibuprofen(3200 mg day) Celebrex, Cymbalta, Neurotin, Mobic, Lyrica, Relafen and Toradol(take 5 days, wait, take 5 days...)I just go around and ask doctors for narcotics. And when doctors want to give me epidurals(had 9, no help, insurance company wont pay for them anymore, medically unnecessary they said) or S1 joint injections(3 , same as epidurals) or the non narcotic meds that I already tried I get upset. But thats me, I just enjoy taking narcotics meds that are doing God knows what to my body, just to get a little relief from the pain. Thanks for setting me straight.
