How Long Does Your Brain Take to Wake up?
In the morning when I wake up it seems like it takes my brain about a hour to two hours to wake up and get out the house.I am on a sleep schedule from 10pm to 8am but I still get very fatigue? Is it I am sleeping too much now?I am not working or going to school all I do is go to MDs appointments, errands, paperwork, phone calls and just try to keep busy but I get this fatigue and be ready to go to bed by 9 but keep myself up till 10. It is like I went from insomnia to all I want to do is sleep now?
Today was the first day I had fell out and took a nap in I don't know how long!Has anyone else had this experience?I wonder how long this will last? |
I sleep a lot too. My doctor said my brain is still needing it for healing time.

most of the time my brain seems to function at <50% until around 2pm regardless of what time i wake up. I get overwhelmed and anxious and cant think straight (more than usual) for what seems like forever

You said "I am not working or going to school all I do is go to MDs appointments, errands, paperwork, phone calls and just try to keep busy but I get this fatigue and be ready to go to bed by 9 but keep myself up till 10."
What level of intensity is there to your paperwork and phone calls ? Why do you try to keep busy ? If you are ready to go to sleep at 9 pm, why are you waiting until 10 pm ? You might need to find less stressful activities to keep busy with. If the paperwork requires a lot of reading and comprehension, it can cause fatigue. My wife made me cancel the morning newspaper because reading it would exhaust me so I needed a 2 hour nap. You might try to limit any task to 15 minutes with a 10 minute break before starting another task. Early in my recovery, I had a number of tasks that I switched between during the day. It will help if you try to recognize signs of fatigue. For example, if you are reading, if you need to reread a line or sentence, you brain has likely hit a fatigue threshold. Any time you feel like you are getting the slightest bit glassy eyed, stop, take a break and move to something else. If you catch yourself staring at a page, the wall, or anything, it is another sign of fatigue. If you need to work to find your words, take a break. Pushing through these points is not productive for recovery. My best to you. |

Routine: I personally found it very good to set a routine - especially to override the insomnia by going to bed and rising at set times. Hidden work: It was not until another poster (papershoes) pointed it out to me that I was doing a lot of "hidden" work. Responding to letters or chasing down medical appointments and solicitors is extremely taxing and burns up a lot of brain power. Tiredness: Even though I now get 8 hours or more sleep - it still takes me a while to get going in the morning. But I build this into my routine - get dressed, have breakfast, take medication and vitamins, some screen time. Then do some simple housework - dishes or put the vacuam on. I may have to rest afterwards but I can work with that as part of the routine. Mainly early evenings I have to "shut down" for 10 mins where I fall asleep. Getting better is a very long process it has taken me over a year to get comfortable with what I can and can't do - for the first six months, I was still trying to live my old hyperactive, multitasking lifestyle. I realise I am not that person now |
Thanks Mark,
I will keep myself up till 10 because if I go to sleep at 9pm I will wake up at 5am for some reason and then I am wore out by noon. The level of paperwork and calls is intense!I AM DOING ALL THE WORK TO GET TO CORRECT MDs. I am my caregiver I have know one else(my parents are taking care of my daughter),so with that being said I do everything for myself! When I say I try to keep busy I mean that I will do crafts, color, paint, read, clean, walk the dog etc to keep myself from getting total lackadaisical and to occupy my mind on positive things. I am a few months away from 2 years and since I got medication I have felt better then the last time I can remember. I have noticed a lot of cognitive changes for the better with the rest but I will wake up and am productively good for anywhere to 4-6hours with or without doing anything. I take my vitamins, eat good, walk, rest and feel pretty good except this fatigue....Any suggestions on a vitamin I might try taking more of to get energy? Quote:

Going hard for 3 days
I had went physically hard for 3 days in a row and stayed on my sleep schedule but last night I could not stay up till 10pm and here I am 5am and up!My daughter is home with me till Mon and I told her I might have to sleep a lot today because I had a busy week. She looked @ me and said the weeks not over lol.
About the sleep schedule and brain waking up...This is why I need my parents to help me with her because in the mornings I can't just jump out of bed and do what normal people do chug a large coffee and go drive her to school.I did it all last year and I was a complete mess....I could not wake up or if I did I would have anxiety from the crazy traffic and that was the start of the day with headaches and muscle spasms! |
