Can celexa cause a lack of emotion?
Hi
I started Celexa 3 weeks ago for anxiety. Since then, I've noticed that I have a lack of feeling, even when my DH wants to get cuddly, I enjoy the cuddle, but cannot "go over the edge". Could it be too much Celexa? I also have a concussion, could that be it? Im so bummed this is happening!!! |
Yes
I had also problems overcoming sexual s.e of escitalopram after taking it for only 9 days. Side effects got worse right after discontinuation. You search for "pssd" (post ssri sexual dysfunction on the net. Numb feelings, anhedonia and mental persistant side effects have also been reported.

This is first time I have heard this issue. Just started taking it again myself and wouldn't know if this was happening to me to be honest due to so many other depressing matters I carry. Wish I could be more helpful and will try and watch if these feelings overpower me as well on this med. Overall I do find it helpful though! :D |
Celexa and Possible Sexual Side-Effects
Hi Gunny,
Celexa (and Lexapro) are both known for inhibiting orgasms in women and often cause erectile dysfunction (difficulties) in men. One of my husband's male friends had started on Celexa and had been on it for two weeks. He was very freaked out by these types of side-effects. He came to dinner and shared with my husband and me about his issues. He did not realize the issue was a Celexa side-effect. After two weeks of Celexa, it took 4 weeks of Celexa discontinuation for these side-effects to clear (for him). Many female friends talk with me about the inability to have an orgasm when taking Celexa. Citalopram is helpful for anxiety, for anxious depressions and for pain. A different type of antidepressant, bupropion (Wellbutrin SR) is often thought to be the antidepressant with the least interference with sexual functioning. Hope this information is helpful. Am sure your doctor can more thoroughly answer any of your concerns. Take care, Gunny! Warmly, DejaVu |
