My Experience in the Hospital
On February 15, I was rushed to the ER with heart palpitations from my PCP. She found that my potassium was dangerously low and that my anxiety was overwhelming me. The experience was decent to say the least. However, I am better now. Much better than before. I am now on Paxil and take potassium and magnesium as prescribed. Feeling better. :) And yes, I am very happy!
P.S I spent most of my time in the Art Therapy Room! Haha! :D |
I'm so glad you're feeling much better and that your doctor found something to help you!
Did anyone mention if this low potassium was common after concussion or is it totally unrelated? Also, was the potassium the cause of the anxiety also? It's amazing how many times I can be wondering about a symptom or thinking a question and come on here and someone else is talking about it! I'm sitting here right now with chest pains and the last couple weeks chest pains and anxiety have been increased for me. I'm 39 and otherwise really healthy so chest pains don't make sense. I don't really feel like my hearts racing necessarily though. I was just ignoring it as anxiety but perhaps I'll mention it to my doctor next appt. Thanks for sharing your story! I hope this is the start of more good days for you! CC |
I feel less weak and I have way less heart palpitations, I feel I am close to the end of my recovery. I can't tell you for sure if potassium is the cure but it is definitely necessary to keep monitored and for function. 4,700 mg a day for adults is what is recommended. In the hospital, I was still able to follow my vitamin schedule and was put on a new medicine for my anxiety. I was there for 6 days. They had different types of groups and therapy while I was there. Food was good surprisingly for a hospital. I was mostly found in the art therapy room painting projects or coloring with other people. I got to meet new people with anxiety, and someone my age was there with PCS just like me. It's a relief sometimes to know you aren't alone.

Hi Consider. I was wondering why we had not heard from you recently. Glad everthing is ok
. It must of been very scary for you at the time. Do they say why your potassium levels were low? or what may have caused it?.. You sound live your anxiety levels have decreased so that really helps with recovery. Keep positive and keep healing.... Cx |
Hi consider
Glad to hear you are happy and doing better. I read on your post that you are an avid gamer on the PC. You may know my son if you play the Star Wars game. My son is on that almost daily and just loves it. ginnie:grouphug:

I believe there was discussion on the low potassium in this thread, I mentioned it.
Its always good to check your electrolytes when your body is having troubles from the norm..... no matter what supplements you are taking. The brain will use them up rather quickly to maintain its balance first and foremost. |
