Hello everyone. I have never joined a community like this; I'm kinda stumbling around here. I am awaiting test results for NMO. I am having so much pain and skin sensitivity, burning, weakness in both legs, and so much more. I've read some things about NMO. I'd really like to...I'm not sure what I'd like. I just know this struggle with the pain and weakness is really taking its toll. I can only drive really short distances and only sometimes. I guess I need some advise on dealing with this kind of thing. Some advise? What are some of you doing for the intense burning and nerve pain? And at what point do I seek help with my daily life? I live alone, so..."hard" is an understatement now. Also, I didn't see a forum for NMO. Help?!

Welcome to Neurotalk--
--and if you're looking for information on Neuromyelitis Optica, or Devic's Syndrome, you're right, there isn't a specific forum for it (it is rare)--but I would be willing to bet the MS people would have some good advice and probably some information on treatment and the like (lots of expertise there):

Hello Purple Paisley and Welcome to NeuroTalk.
Feel free to visit the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) forum. NMO was once thought to be a vairant of MS, but that is no longer the case. NMO and MS are separate diseases and have different treatment, though their symptoms are very similar. For information and support on NMO you might try The Guthy Jackson Foundation http://www.guthyjacksonfoundation.org/ You can log in to Spectrum and will find a wealth of information and support for NMO. Best wishes  |
Hello Purple paisley
Welcome to Neuro Talk. I am glad you found this site. Lots of compassion and friendship here. I am sorry for the painful condiditon you have. I don't know alot about it, but I would guess seeing the very best Neurologist would be the best bet. A pain management doctor would also be of help. I go see a physiatrist, who deal with not only pain, but the whole person on a cellular level.
I too live alone with some pain. I am alot better than I was. However being by yourself is a challange. I have my son in the area who helps me. There may be a community center, that may have some ideas in your area to get you a bit of help. You will never be alone here on NT. Jo*Mar, and MrsD both are moderators, and may be able to find the correct forum to try and help you. I will look up your condition, as I had not heard of it before. Please feel at ease here. Welcome again, ginnie |
