Here goes.
I'm 26 and undergoing alot of stress and have been the past 5 or 6 years( since I started college). I have a 2 year old and a 5 month old. I abused alcohol from around age 18 until around 24. This was mostly binge drinking, So there could be months gaps when I didn't drink, but when I did it was until I pretty much blacked out or couldn't walk. Around June of 2012 my big toe on my left foot got a tingiling sensation and eventually started doing it in my feet and calves. The burning came and went and also the pins and needs so me and my doctor automaticly thought perephrial neurothopy. They did many blood test and an MRI(I guess to check for MS) and all came back normal, besides a vitamin D defficiancy. He sent me to a neurologist in which the tests came back normal and she said that she thinks anxiety has gave me "neurothapy like symptoms". After a few months went by symptoms hadn't worsened, in fact they might have gotten a little bit better. The things that have remained consistent have been that of the morning I wake up with no symptoms and as soon as I step out of bed my heels feel prickly and the pins and needles is present, but usually after walking around a few minutes this goes away. If my hands are up above my head my fingers get a tingly feeling. And at times my feet feel hot and strange warm sensations. But a few days ago I started getting muscle spasms(another scary symptom that can be something serious or anxiety), and this has me scared again. I plan to make an appointment with my doctor one day next week to tell him about the new symptom to see if this one is also chalked up anxiety. It's just amazing to me that all of this can be because of anxiety, but I still find myself wondering if there was a false negative on one of the tests. Any imput from anyone would be greatly appreciated. If anyone needs any more details feel free to ask. |

Hi jake,
I am sorry to hear of your nerve pain, nerve pain is a really tough thing to deal with. I have a partially herniated disc in my neck that creates a great deal of suffering for me, it radiates down my arms and into my hands usually the tips of my thumb and fingers go numb when I wake up. I hope you're able to get answers from your doctors soon. I also suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and I can tell you it's no fun, I really hope what you're going through isn't anxiety but if it is we're here to support you through it and your journey to find relief. :) Welcome to Neurotalk! :) |
Thanks for the response

Unfortunately I do suffer from anxiety, but have not seeked any professional help for dealing with it. I don't want to be on any medication long term, so I try to remedy it myself. There's no doubt in my mind that anxiety is either the cause or the multiplier of what's going on with me. |
