Surgery update -they found an extra rib!

I just had surgery with Dr. Sanders on Tuesday and wanted to let everyone know that he found an extra cervical rib during surgery that had not shown up on any of my x-rays or MRIs. He removed the extra rib, along with my anterior and middle scalene muscles. He also detached my pec minor muscle and removed 1 inch of the pec minor muscle. I'm very achy and sore but very hopeful that Sanders may have found the culprit that every other doctor had missed.

I hope this information can help other people. Feel free to respond or PM me with any questions you may have. I fly tomorrow to my parents in Maryland to recover for the next few weeks. And then, hopefully, back to Los Angeles to return to work , and the rest of my life. I will keep you posted during this recovery process.

Thanks to all of you for being so forthcoming about your own experiences. All my love, Annie

Hi Annie,

Glad to hear that your surgery went well.. Be sure to rest and let yourself recover.. :Zzzz: Just curious did Dr Sanders see the extra rib on the x-ray or MRI's or did he only find it when he went in during the surgery?
Once again glad it went so well...
Hugs

Hi Annie,

Wow! You move fast! Sorry I'm coming to this so late--I try to restrict my computer use as much as possible.

I'm so glad to hear that your surgery is over and that you seem to be doing well. How strange that the extra cervical rib didn't show up on any of the testing. I've always thought X-rays are definitive (?). Makes me wonder about my own case--I've been told that I have an extra cervical rib, but that it's supposedly too short to be the cause of my problems.

Hope your recovery is smooth, that you are able to enjoy a little pampering from the parents :winky: and that you are able to get on with your wonderful "real" life very soon.

Please do keep us posted on how you're doing when you are able.

A big gentle hug to you,

Stardust
