What type of tests should I expect?

Hi I was just told I had neuropathy two weeks ago, but I've been seeing this neurologist since last summer 2012, when three of my toes went strangely numb. Why do I have the feeling from reading other people's posts that my doctor should be doing tests to figure out why I have this?

I am not diabetic. I did have Lyme disease at the same time my toes went numb but I specifically asked the neurologist if that was it and he said no. I smoked but quit. I only drink maybe three times a year. I am also bipolar and close to menopause.

It just seems like there should be tests, other than the leg shock test he gave me where he said I have a very small 'palsy' in my right leg (that's what he first called it.)

All replies would be greatly appreciated and thank you very much.

I was diagnosed wit neuropathy yesterday. They did the shock test on my legs and arms. I have fibromyalgia but man that test was really painful to me. I am hoping I wont have to take that test again lol . I have tingling on my right arm and leg and just recently started having some on my left arm. did they prescribe you any med for the neuropathy ? Wishing you the best ! Laura from Arkansas
