I had a dream last night and I woke up spitting mad.
I was at a party with a mix of MSers and their Families.
Everything was going along dandy, everyone was laughing
and talking, until my MIL turned to me and said, "look
at Susie, she's walking and talking just fine.....why
can't you". As if to say, "you could do it if you just tried".:rolleyes::mad:

Then, sometimes it works the other way around, like
your the one walking and talking and your Aunt or
Uncle turns and say, "you can't have MS, look at
Susie's in a scooter":rolleyes::mad:.

How many of you have had this happen to you? It's
happened to me, with both scenerios...Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

They just don't get it is putting it mildly.:rolleyes:

Weird, I never have dreams about MS. Guess living it is a nightmare enough for me;)

I've had that happen many times from my family. my sister is the reason i was on Xanax so i wouldn't go insane, with her saying clueless uninformed stuff like that

I've never had those kinds of dreams. However, I have had the kind of dreams where I am running and enjoying the fact that I can run. Usually in the dream I am amazed that I can run and my legs feel so great.

I never had MS in my dream, in my younger years, but,
in the last few years, I always have MS in my dreams. :(

The funny thing is, that, in my dreams, I can still walk.:D

Must be something in the air because it seems to be happening here, too. Wish this had been just a dream!

I'm just so tired of having to explain to people that I walk slow so don't expect me to keep up with you if you're going to speed walk. :rolleyes:

You'd think the cane I carry and the fact my balance is so bad would be a clue to some folks but apparently it's not.

I went to the doctor last week and the nurse that called me back was half way down the hall by the time I got through the doorway. I didn't hurry and she disappeared around a corner. I just kept on walking and when I got to the end of the hall I looked left and right and she was just standing by the open door to the exam room. :mad: Like I had purposely taken my time. I walked into the room, put my purse and cane next to the chair and then she says "we need to get your weight". Okay.....that would have been something we could have done when we passed the scale at the other end of the hallway!! :rolleyes: I made her wait till I collected my purse and cane and s-l-o-w-l-y walked down the hall again. I think she knew I was ticked off.

I'm just tired of inconsiderate people.....whether I have a disability or not. People can just be so rude. I'm not apologizing anymore for my limitations. If someone has a problem with them then that's something they need to work out with themselves. There's room for everyone here on this earth.

One of my pet peeves is when we go out to eat and the hostess seats some one who is using a rollator/cane/walker in the section that is farthest away from the door. I guess another pet peeve is that the family does not say anything. I don't care which waitress has the turn for the next party. If my Mom can't walk to that back table, she will sit in front where there is one.

When my mom had knee surgery and we were putting her in a wheelchair to take her out to eat, and we'd go places and they'd walk us all the way into the back of the restaurant, thru crowds of people. I hated that. For one, it was embarrassing to have to say "excuse me" to all the people we were rolling my mom over. Two, it's another pain in the !ahem! to walk back out thru that crowd when you're done.

Now that I use a cane, my dad uses a cane, and my mom uses a walker, first thing I do when going into a restaurant is to ask for a table close to the exit if at all possible. We also go out to eat a lot earlier in the afternoon. (4pm, sometimes earlier) Today (tuesday) when we went to Famous Dave's, going early, and asking for a specific table worked.

Last week, when we went to a different restaurant it didnt quite work out. At that place, I asked for a regular table (not a booth) and said we'd like it close to the exit. The moron hostess still walked us all the way into the back of the restaurant, past several tables that were in areas closer to the door that were obviously being staffed. We put up with it. I wasnt having a problem walking that day, and my dad said not to complain.

I've started to post reviews to the restaurants that make us walk thru crowds to seat us. If we had decent service, other than the hostess being a bit rigid in where she seated us after we've made our request, I'll still give good reviews for the food and the server. Hopefully by name, so that the business will know that we were treated great by the server, but that the hostess needs lessons in listening (and critical thinking)

I hardly ever go out to eat but I agree with you, Erin. It seems like when I do go out we're seated as far away from the front as possible. Could be it just seems that way (to me) because it takes me longer to walk it.

I've found that if I ask nicely.....and even make it seem like they're doing me some huge favor......they're more than happy to accommodate. I figure it's one of those "pick your battles" moment! :rolleyes:

I've found that one thing I truly dislike is having someone walk behind me. Anywhere. I usually step aside and ask them to go ahead and usually they try to refuse but I hold my ground and ask them nicely to please go ahead of me - that it's easier for me to walk without someone behind me. The reason I do this is because so many folks get so close to me when I'm walking with a cane that it trips me up and makes it hard to keep my balance. Sometimes I end up having to explain why....which is tiring and often leads to questions. It's just easier to stay home. :( Now I understand why so many handicapped folks seem irritable! They're tired of having to explain their every move!
