Hi, I am usually on the peripheral neuropathy site. I was diagnosed with that in 2009 after being in pain for a while. I have a rheumotologist that says I also have fibromyalgia. I have looked at all the s/s on google and it looks like a lot of the symptoms that I have.
My question is can neuropathy be a a symptom of fibromyalgia.

All I can tell you is that a lot of people have neuropathy. So yes, I guess that can be one of the symptoms. But it's not the ONLY symptom of course. I was just diagnosed, so I'm new at this Fibromyalgia thing. ;)

Fibro can be triggered by various pain disorders. It occurs mostly in people, who have a genetic tendency to develop it.
It is a central pain disorder, for the most part, in the brain.

Neuropathies are a trigger for fibro therefore in patients who are prone to this. (also various traumas, vaccines and other things).

Dr. Clauw is a major researcher in this area, and if you Google him, you'll see many interviews. I saw him in person, and really, he was very very good. Fabulous in fact. Most of the Fibro sites have interviews with him.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain disorder. But many doctors still do not understand it or realize what it is.

Fibromyalgia is diagnosed when all other things are ruled out.
I don't know that much about what you asked about. But if you
have chronic pain in all the body, in my opinion its possible to
have fibro if there is pain in area's that nothing else diagnosis it.

My Rheumo told me you could develope neuropathy with Fibro. Seems for some pple they go together. She told me I do not have Fibro, I dont have any of the symptoms for it. My neuro wanted me to be evaluated by a Rheumo doc anyway .:rolleyes:

Also, I was looking at some of your posts dated back to 11/2012. You and a few other posters talked about having IVIG treatments. I was dxed with small fiber neuropathy in Oct 2012. I was wondern if you ended up getting the ivig treatments and if they worked for you?. Does one have to have an indentifiable autoimmune disorder such as CIDP, etc.. can people with small fiber neuropathy (idiopathic) with no known cause or any unknown autoimmune disease be a candidate for these treatments., do you know? Thanks....

Hi, Yes I did get the IVIG and continue getting them. Yes, I did get help from them. I was getting them once a month. Now my Rheumo and Neuro talked and Neuro wanted to increase them to 3 days in a row each month. I started that this week and had some substantial side effects but I'm hopeful that I will end up with less pain. With just one Rx, I had relief but only for about 1 week. They are hoping with 3 the Rx will last longer. My neurologist tried to get me IVIG for neuropathy. My insurance said no. Then my rhemo gave it a shot for Sjogrens. I have a possible diganoses of Sjogrens which I don't agree with but it got me the IVIG. My Rheumo had to fight them them. He put in the time and I got it. Hopefully, you have a good doctor that is willing to keep going back to the insurance company.

Dear Hopeful, I also have both but, I know a lot of people that have fibro and do not have the neuropathy problems. I didn't get it until I had had fibro for 6 or 7 years. I don't think I did. Fibro can mess up so many other symptoms for other things. What is frustrating, is some Dr.s blame everything on fibro. Sometimes that is just not true. Good Luck Hopeful. You have my empathy.
