Numb vs Pain

Hello,
Anyone know why some areas get numb and others have pain? My right foot on and off (more on lately) gets numb feelings; my fingers 4 and 5 of both hands go numb overnight if my arms lay flat on the bed; most other areas have pain. I have this condition whole body. Thanks.

Numbness, pain, burning, tingling, aching are all common symptoms of almost any type of nerve damage conditions, or RSD as well.

Thx songbird; I found this to be interesting in the link from Mayo Clinic:
In some people, signs and symptoms of complex regional pain syndrome go away on their own.
Wonder how often that happens after CRPS pain has gone systemic, like my CRPS. I have never heard of that.
Take care my friend.

Schwartzman had an excellent retrospective case review a couple years ago addressing numerous issues including cure/remission. I am sure it is on this site somewhere!

I have the same problem with areas like my hand being numb and others painful. It was really confusing at first because i would doubt that i was in enough pain to "qualify" as a RSD sufferer. Especially when my whole arm would be numb. I will say though that id rather numb to painful. :p

Yes mollymoo123 - I have certain areas that get numb. Most get pain!

Thx Dubious - would love to see the link to that Schwartzman article - not sure if I have read that one.

I have areas that are both numb and painful at the same time. Both my hand and foot are numb at all times, but they also get burning and aching pain. People never understand if it us numb how can it hurt!

All of these symptoms are extremely "normal" for CRPS/ True is different for everyone but yours seems to be very "classic" symptoms. As far as remission goes, it's tricky. It is MUCH harder to get it to go into remission after 6 months, or after it progressing, however I now it is possible for it to go into remission at anytime, like cancer, just as it's possible to come back at any time for any reason AFTER it's gone into remission.

Not a fun diagnosis to get. Sometimes I think the MIND has as much power as treatments. I think it's a combination of mind, body, and modern medicine. At least in the beginning. You never know though, I did hear of a case where a young girl in her teen developed full body and pushed into remission, I'll have to look up the link or site I saw it one. I think it was RSDHOPE......

Try looking it up here. I have found TONS of useful information through this site!!
