Been offline for several months. Moved back home to va. beach,va.
Found a new pain mngt. doc. at Bon Secours neuroscience center.
I told him i need to try something new that the 300 mg. a day of morphine still left me with pain of 3 to 6 not acceptable.
He told me about this Drug comp. that makes their own formulas. We chose one for inflamation. I received it thr 22 dec. It is a salve i use twice a day and after 4 days PRAISE GOD.

The only time i get any pain is when i forget to use it. After 14 years i am finally getting relief.

The type of product you describe is commonly made by
compounding pharmacies all over the country.

There are various recipes of these including more than one drug.
Examples are :
gabapentin

a tricyclic antidepessant like amitriptyline

an NSAID -- usually a lipophilic one dicofenac or similar ketoprofen

Ketamine

Clonidine

Lidocaine (topical anesthetic)

and more

@vagent, can you provide the ingredients in your particular
topical RX? If not typed on the label (can be a long list) your
particular pharmacy should be able to provide that for you.

Not all of these are the same, and quantities and drugs can be
chosen by the doctor for particular patients' needs.

You can even have magnesium added, and I'd suggest that,
because magnesium lotion is very helpful for my left foot problems (swelling and pain).
Magnesium may complex gabapentin however.

Topical products can be very useful for PN pain. From OTC magnesium
and Biofreeze (or other products with high menthol ingredients), to Salonpas (topical methylsalicylate with menthol/camphor).
I use Biofreeze for burning, magnesium lotion for the swelling and Salonpas for pain. Not all at once, because my foot changes from day to day. Some days I don't need anything for it. (surgical damage from decades ago when a tumor was removed from my instep which damaged many nerves there).

Some of our posters on the RSD forum use a topical compounding cream, with success too. It can be a very useful treatment and sometimes more effective than oral drugs. Works best on targets that are small. Not likely to work over large areas like all over burning because the drugs then will be absorbed perhaps in too large an amount systemically. The NSAIDs used topically this way may cause liver damage over time.

Mrs. D. Saw mt pain doc today and got a copy of my new pain salve.

This is the one i use.

10% keamine
1% bupivacaine
3% diciofenac
3% doxepin
6% gabapentin
5% orphenadrine

I can't say enough good things about this salve. It has made my life worth living. My next step is to lessen the swelling in the bottom of my feet.
Only GOD can heal but i can give him some help until that day.
I wish the people looking for the reason for their problem would stop and just look for ways to lessen the pain. We know there is no cure so why keep wasting time and money.
I do hope people will read my post and look what i have done for myself. Get a good pain Doc. and help themselves.

You can try some magnesium lotion for that swelling.

It works better for me for that, than anything else.

Available at Amazon.com Epsom-It.

Get the Body rub version, as it is fragrance free. The foot rub is
the same with perfumes added.

Or ask your doctor to add magnesium to your RX product.
You can also soak in epsom salts, if you want, and that will help with swelling too.

Also comes in a spray on liquid: (it is not really an "oil").

Less expensive this way.
Magnesium opens up the little blood vessels and helps with circulation.

A salbe for PN numbness
 

Does this salbe get rid of the sensation of numbness as well as pain ?
