RSD Discoloration and pain

1 Attachment(s)
As a mom with a daughter that has RSD there are so many different looks the disease presents with. Her feet will go from a pale white to dark purple, blue, red and grey. The pain seems to go along with the color changes. There is a visible line where the RSD stops and starts. Anyone else have this experience?

Yes, I definitely had that early on (first year and a half) in my crps. The color change and the definite line where the crps stops was present also. I felt I could have been in the circus for the beautiful colors my foot changed from and to. The colors would be more intense if the air hit my foot and if my foot had any kind of stimulation. My GP had not had a crps pt. before and he asked me if he could see my foot. I took off my shoe & sock- the color wasn't so remarkable. But then over the period of a couple of minutes talking, it was a vivid blue with the line of demarcation. In fact, looking back, that's precisely how my ortho surgeon came up with the diagnosis. We were talking about my foot which was bare and after a couple of minutes, it had turned blue. He called his NP in to see my foot as well. I think this can be somewhat of a classical sign. Good luck with your daughter. I'm wishing her all the best.

I have/had the same symptoms in my foot, especially for the first year after contracting CRPS.

And there is an absolute marked line on my foot where the CRPS starts and stops. That can be a trademark of CRPS.

I hope your daughter is being treated in a inter-disciplinary manner. Proper medication, therapy (including psychotherapy) conventional and complementary medical treatments. Gotta hit it with everything including the kitchen sink.....

Children often respond better than adults, but time is always of the essence as far as treatment goes. Good luck to you!

I had this a ton when I first had RSD. I was diagnosed at either 14 or 15, so I've had it since I was fairly young. It was one of the ways my doctor dx me. It's normal - at least for RSD - and a symptom of the condition. Yes, I also seemed to notice that when I had flare ups or a general increase in pain, there were color changes. I thought it was cool (in a warped way...wished I didn't have it of course, but I tried to make the most of it) that my foot would turn so many colors. When I put pressure on my foot, it turned deep purple. When it was cold, it turned blue or was a ghastly pale color. When it felt like it was on fire, it turned deep red, etc.

Your daughter's foot looks like my hand! It changes colour all the time, and the worse the pain, the deeper red it goes. The back of my fingers also go blue.

Other times, as you say, it can be completely pale. There is a definite line where the CRPS starts.

In a strange way, it can be useful, as it's a warning to my children not to go near it (or me) when my hand is that colour!

Definitely. The line is especially strange! Showers always brought out a kalidoscope of color.
