You can search here "magnesium" and find threads that discuss it.
Basically all humans need a RDA amount to live. If you get that, you are in the 30% of Americans, as 70% or so are deficient. The studies showing magnesium problems with MG were found with massive doses, like the IV injections given to pre-eclampsic women in labor. RDA for females is about 350mg elemental a day. Magnesium oxide is not absorbed, so doesn't count. SlowMag or a good chelate is recommended. A good supplement will give elemental values in the ingredients list. Some do not, so what you get may be confusing with those types. This is an example of good labeling... http://www.iherb.com/Doctor-s-Best-M...120-Tablets/15 2 of these daily provide 1/2 the average RDA for adults, which is a good dose to start at...assuming you eat about 1/2 of what you really need. Some foods are good sources: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread1138.html and there are topical forms on that thread too. |
In my experience, capsules or tablets used in reasonable dosages are not a problem. IV mag, on the other hand, made me VERY weak. The weakness lasted about 24 hours. It should be used with caution, but if you absolutely need it, it can be used.
