Ringing in the ears
 
Hello!

I started the vestibular therapy about a week ago and it has really helped the dizzy go away. Sound and light sensitivity are still there, but better and energy is geting better too.

But now, I have ringing in my ears --- more at night -- and I think more when I am tired.

Any suggestions to how to deal with it?

Tinnitus or ringing in the ears is a common problem. There are no reliable therapies to reduce it. The best way to tolerate it is to try to ignore it. Use other sounds, music, etc. to focus on so the tinnitus is not the focus. I have had tinnitus for over a decade. It gets louder at times. Drinking cold water can make it louder. Eating can make it louder. It defies logical explanation.

The tinnitus remedies sold on TV do not work. They just get you stuck with autoship programs with credit card charges.

Reducing anxiety levels may help if you have not already worked to reduce them.

Just know that you are not suffering tinnitus alone. Many of us have learned to just live with it.

That's great that you're already noticing improvement with your therapy! An increase in anxiety is not uncommon with vestibular therapy so give the tinnitus time and it may get better as you continue your treatment.

I've had tinnitus my entire life. It still bothers me to this day, but it is a symptom that will not ruin your life in any way (even though it may feel that way now), even if it is permanent.

I always manage it through background noise. Depending on your severity, this could be as simple as a computer fan, or something louder, like an air conditioner or a noise machine. On nights when I don't have the air conditioner or fan blowing I find it harder to sleep. I find that when I am dehydrated, tired, stressed, etc, it gets worse. Caffiene, alcohol, and MSG are all triggers that I avoid as well.

Much like lots of other symptoms, the more you think about them, the worse they feel.

All these replies are really helpful and I thank you all. The rining sound is pretty light and you are all right, it is something I can learn to live with and I hope my brain will just have more happy, busy thoughts to think about than the ringy thingy.
