review article - Exercise: A possible adjunct therapy to alleviate early Parkinson di

KEY POINTS

■ Gait training, resistance, balance/coordination, activities of daily living, and tandem cycling improve motor abnormalities in Parkinson disease (PD).

■ Self-assessment of patients with PD following exercise regimens shows improvement in cognitive functioning and reduced depression.

■ Positive effects of exercise on symptoms of PD result in a better quality of life.

■ While further research is needed to address long-term effects and influence on later stages of PD, clinicians should consider implementing exercise in conjunction with pharmacologic therapy.

i'm convinced exercise has slowed my progression and even if placebo, it has tremendous other health benefits. why neuros aren't prescribing starting day 1 is beyond me.

Love the Delay the Disease YouTube.
My MDS did recommend exercise from day one! And I agree it helps with my symptoms.

I agree 100%. I think it has helped slow progression, and in some ways I actually feel better than I did a year ago. Placebo or not, it works!

I will say that every doc I have seen so far has strongly recommended exercising to the max.

I also lift weights to help with bone density (being a woman of a certain age) however my real reason for lifting weights is to have “guns” like the First Lady!

And, I find laughter my greatest pick me up.

You certainly make me laugh with some of your comments. I think you should give Tai Chi a shot. If you get the right instructor you'll find it helps a lot and is fun at the same time. Probably similar to dancing, but more meditative.
