Neupro for SFN
 

Has anyone tried Neupro for SFN? My neurologist is sending me some samples to try. I'm hoping it'll help as I haven't had luck with anything else. Has anyone used this and had positive results from it?

What have you tried so far? What happens when you tried the other stuff? The sleep doc told me that I need to take something for periodic limb movement and I'm still waiting for my neuro to call me and let me know they've called in a prescrip. I'm just wondering what your experience is to the other meds. Sleep doc recommended Requip/ropinirole.

The Neupro looks interesting. I wonder if it absorbs better through the skin rather than the stomach? Good luck with it. I sure hope it helps.

Neupro was designed mostly for Parkinson's, and the patch
delivery is important for them, so there will be less freezing and rigidity between doses.

It might help with RLS, but seems like a big intervention for that.
It was off the market for quite a while for patch redesigning...since the system failed at first.

I have tried Gabapentin. Didn't help. Caused me to be a little loopy the first couple of days then that passed but brought no relief.

Next, used Ametriptyline. Helped the burning sensation just a touch but not the rest of the pain. It caused weight gain and a lot of sedation, so much so that I was so tired that I could almost cry. I was afraid to drive with this med, especially when I had to take my children in the car. The very small benefit I was getting, and I say very small, wasn't worth the side effects.

Third I was given Horizant. The only good thing about it was that I didn't have the sedation side effects but it didn't help the pain.

Tomorrow I start on the Neupro.

I have also tried a TENS unit but no help there.

My SFN is idiopathic and the neurologist can find no cause. Have to be a mystery I suppose.

I am curious about neupro, have not heard of it. I have been on 2700 gabapentin, and it does nothing besides make me tired. My neurologist is taking me off gabapentin and putting me on lyrica to see if any better result. Tramadol is the only thing that seems to give me any relief, though still minimal help.

This sounds like where I'm at. I just recently switched from Gabapentin to Elavil and it doesn't seem to be doing much but making me tired and causing a terrible ringing in my ears. I'm about to stop taking it.

Not feeling great about any of the possible medications and my Neuropathy is just getting worse.

Yep, I'm at that spot too. Neuropathy getting worse. Doc didn't suggest a replacement of what I'm on, just in addition. Gabapentin made me stupid. I'm now taking Oxcarbazapine and I thought I was super tired because of that med, but it's my legs that are making me tired. I sleep, but it's not real sleep, so I wake up after sleeping many hours still tired. If I could 1. stop moving my legs in my sleep and 2. not be in pain in the middle of the night I could hypothetically actually sleep and wake up refreshed. That's why I need the parkinson's drug :(

It seems like a lot, but sleep is important too. I'm going to try the ropinirole (since it's generic, the one you suggested is not). Everything I've been able to find suggests nausea as a big side effect, but I'm already nauseous all the time anyway. I haven't been able to find anything natural that will work instead.

I sure know how you feel. I sometimes feel frustrated and have my doubts about whether medication is going to help. Plus the side effects can sometimes make a person wonder if it's worth taking especially if it's not helping much. I especially hate feeling so miserably sleepy.

Still haven't started on the Neurpo. The nurse at my neurologist's office told me they would send it in the mail and I'd have it by last Saturday. Still hasn't come and it's now Tuesday. I should probably call them but guess I'm a little afraid of being disappointed again and maybe having another medication not work for me. :Sigh:
