Hello,new here,Schizophrenic

Hello good people. I was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1979. Still have it. It will not let go. Although I am independent and living in my own home,I remain socially isolated and friendless. Most people do not want to be associated with someone who has a mental illness, especially in Mississippi. I try to stay busy with keeping up my home, pursuing my hobbies, and trying to figure out how to change my social situation. There are very few support groups here for people in my situation. Any suggestions on how to get started here without making a complete idiot of myself would be greatly appreciated.

feeling at home with Schizophrenia

Hi TomboyMel. I often go to a sister site, perhaps you have seen it, Psych Central, which is more for people who have a psychiatric diagnosis. They have an extensive Forum and Support Chats, and I have spent many hours talking with people who have "active symptomatic" schizophrenia. I hope you find support and people who accept you, at either site.
Best Wishes,
StormE1
