Apps for tbi rehab or therapy - vision, auditory, etc!
Hi,
Over the course of my recovery I have been referred to (or discovered) apps for the IPad that are used in therapeutic settings. i though it would be good toshare my discoveries and invite others to post things that they use (including computer programs or web sites) that are useful and hopefully fun at the same time. I have a lot for vision therapy...that will take time to collect! But to start things off: The auditory processing info suggests the game 'Simon' which I played as a kid but which has a free app now. Musical tones, lights and memory. All linked together! I think the simon says app is also good. Saw it for android as well. Would be great if others suggest. I also use scrabble app....because the board does not move, does not require a memory, and yo u are required to scan the board and think at the same time. It has been my lifeline though this (although i could only play after about 9 months post injury). Hope everyone has a great day. M |
I used to be able to use some computer games to regain some processing abilities. I played a lot of Freecell. I could finish one Freecell game in 37 seconds. My daughter competed with me. I also played Minesweeper. It has memory challenges.
Now, if I try to play them for more than a few minutes, I get brain fatigue and crash. I used to read a lot, too. Now, I have to be very careful how much reading I try to do. I know the signs of fatigue and stop at the first sign. Pushing through does not help. I did some Posit Science exercises (like Lumosity) but did not find them to be helpful. |
Wow Mark, 37 seconds?!?! Free cell and I are at about five minutes per game these days. My shortest time was just over two minutes. But like you said I really have to watch my fatigue level.
Mokey, I find I like Draw Something for the iPad. It is zero time pressure, simple drawings but I have no idea if it has any therapeutic benefit. I just like it. Love the colours. I did download an app called FitBrains. I would not recommend it. It really hurt my noggin to think so hard. It was all timed, memory tasks, even multitasking. (Count drops of paint dripping at different rates of speed into 3 cans, which one has the most paint?) |
